Description

The Front Office Investments Technology team is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to help build the next generation of cloud-native applications used by investors.

The role sits in the Portfolio Management Capabilities team, where engineers work alongside the investment process. Investors will use the products daily to analyse portfolios, assess opportunities and make decisions.

This is a hands-on role covering the full lifecycle, with considerable ownership. You will work with subject matter experts to understand problems, shape solutions, and then design, build, test, deploy and support production software. You will take on complex business, data and technical problems in a collaborative setting that prizes solid engineering, new ideas and steady improvement.

The team is modernising how investment teams work by building new front-office applications that combine data, analytics and decision support in one experience. The work covers portfolio construction through implementation and monitoring, using data-heavy user interfaces, scalable cloud services, quantitative analytics and emerging AI-powered workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test, deploy and support software across the full lifecycle.
  • Build front-end applications with TypeScript, React and Redux.
  • Build back-end services with Java, Node.js and REST APIs.
  • Create analytics and data processing components in Python.
  • Design data models and work with relational and document databases.
  • Write automated unit, integration and end-to-end tests.
  • Help improve CI/CD pipelines and engineering practices.
  • Operate and monitor services running in AWS.
  • Take part in code reviews, design reviews and agile ceremonies.
  • Support production releases and keep improving platform reliability.
  • Work with Portfolio Managers, Quants and other stakeholders to turn business needs into technical solutions.

Requirements

  • Strong software engineering skills in TypeScript/JavaScript, Java and Python.
  • Experience with React, Redux and Node.js.
  • Experience building Java services with frameworks such as Spring Boot.
  • Strong grasp of software design, API development and data modelling.
  • Experience with automated testing and modern testing frameworks.
  • Ability to own features from design through to production.
  • Preferred: experience with cloud platforms, particularly AWS (ECS, RDS).
  • Preferred: understanding of asset management and financial markets, ideally Equities, Fixed Income and Multi Asset.
  • Preferred: exposure to portfolio construction, quantitative analytics or financial modelling.
  • Preferred: experience with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor or similar.
  • Preferred: experience building AI-enabled applications, including LLM integrations, RAG, tool calling or agent-based workflows.
  • Preferred: interest in applying AI to both software engineering and investment workflows.
  • Preferred: experience with Agile delivery methods and practices such as TDD and BDD.
  • Preferred: experience with Material UI, ag-Grid and Cypress.
  • Preferred: understanding of UX principles and application design patterns.
