Description

The company's XVA Technology team in London is hiring a Lead Software Engineer, Applications Development at Vice President level.

You will lead design, development and delivery of complex application systems that shape how technology connects critical business functions, working with strong engineers and business partners to own outcomes at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and build of application systems and software that fit the overall architecture and evolving business needs.
  • Work with several management teams to define system changes that support new products and process improvements.
  • Solve high-impact technical problems by analysing complex business processes, system workflows and industry standards in depth.
  • Set and enforce standards for coding, testing, debugging and implementation to keep quality and consistency high across the engineering team.
  • Build a working understanding of how functions such as architecture and infrastructure connect, and use it to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Turn business context and domain knowledge into well-scoped technical solutions that link stakeholder intent to engineering delivery across the full lifecycle.
  • Use AI coding tools such as GitHub Copilot or Devin with sound engineering judgment: review outputs closely, ask the right questions to confirm context, and protect code quality, security and architectural integrity before anything is merged.
  • Mentor and coach mid-level developers and analysts, giving technical guidance and assigning work to support delivery and growth.
  • Assess risk in engineering and business decisions, keeping to applicable regulations, policies and controls and escalating issues transparently.
  • Deliver technology projects end to end, coordinating across teams and stakeholders.
  • Reprioritise quickly when business or technical demands change, keeping delivery on track.
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly, both in writing and verbally, to engineers and non-technical audiences.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in applications development or systems analysis, with a record of delivering complex software.
  • Deep expertise in system analysis and software application programming, able to evaluate and resolve technical challenges independently.
  • Subject matter expertise in at least one area of applications development, with enough depth to set technical direction and define best practices.
  • Strong T-shaped engineering skills: deep specialism plus enough breadth to understand business processes, interpret stakeholder needs and design solutions that are technically sound and commercially relevant.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills, including experience guiding mid-level engineers and analysts in a delivery-focused setting.
  • Experience in large-scale financial services or similarly complex regulated technology environments is beneficial.
  • Hands-on experience with prompt engineering and agentic or skills-based AI solutions is beneficial, especially designing workflows where AI models take an active part in development rather than only speeding it up.
  • A consistent habit of keeping up with AI tooling is beneficial: following new developments, sharing knowledge, questioning established approaches where useful, and helping colleagues use AI safely and well beyond basic use.

Conditions

  • Paid parental leave.
  • Discounts for employees, family and friends.
  • Access to a range of learning and development resources.
  • Senior-level ownership, including the autonomy to set a technical agenda, drive architectural decisions and shape how applications are built across a global platform.
  • A collaborative team working alongside high-calibre engineers and business partners on complex challenges.
