The company is a global technology firm that moves and manages money worldwide, and the Fraud Risk team works to stop fraud at the moment an attempt is made.

The team runs instant checks on transfers and customer profiles, aiming to block risky activity while disrupting genuine customers as little as possible. It uses data, automation and AI-driven signals to cut losses.

Its goals are an automated prevention experience that stops bad activity while legitimate customers keep moving; fast, reliable decisioning for transfers and profiles that is accurate, quick and scalable; close work between fraud specialists and product and engineering to turn expert knowledge into controls; and AI-based detection built with Data Scientists to put models into production, improve precision, cut false positives and lower operating costs.

The team is made up of engineers and fraud specialists.

Responsibilities

• Build the systems that prevent fraud and scams by making real-time decisions on transfers and profiles.
• Own the technical roadmap and delivery of key prevention projects, delivering on time with clear customer impact.
• Deepen your expertise in the technical and fraud domains, and drive improvements to latency, reliability and decision quality on the decisioning platform.
• Reduce technical debt, keep risk within appetite, and apply engineering standards for observability, security, Kafka and database use, and testing.
• Mentor engineers, share knowledge to remove single points of failure, lead onboarding and take part in interviews.
• Work beyond the team through guilds and cross-team efforts that cut duplicated work across fraud and risk.

Requirements

• Strong experience building and running production systems on Java or the JVM, with expert knowledge of your discipline.
• Solid grasp of distributed and event-driven systems such as Kafka, including designing for low latency, high availability and scale.
• A record of making significant contributions to large projects and leading their technical direction, from design and RFCs through delivery and long-term operation.
• Experience designing for long-term iteration and scale, with well-documented API-first interfaces and a proactive approach to technical debt.
• Accountability for the reliability, security and observability of what you build, including leading incident resolution and post-incident reviews.
• Ability to explain why something is built, the customer problem it solves and its expected impact, and to give feedback on the roadmap that balances protection with low friction.
• Experience mentoring and coaching engineers and raising the bar through code reviews, design discussions and best practices.
• Clear communication to work across Product, Data Science, Fraud Operations and Analytics.
• Nice to have: experience with Python, machine learning concepts, deploying models to production, or running large language models in production.
