Description

The company makes wireless system-on-chip products, and this role sits in the radio firmware team that builds the low-level software for their radio.

The work runs across the full chip development cycle and feeds into the company's competitive position in the IC market.

You will help shape the direction of the company's wireless products.

Responsibilities

  • Build, test, and maintain low-level radio firmware drivers for wireless SoCs, giving the rest of the software a stable, well-documented, forward-compatible interface to the radio.
  • Track wireless standards work and turn current and planned radio PHY requirements into efficient firmware.
  • Tune firmware for speed, power use, resource use, and reliability.
  • Help integrate the radio low-level drivers into wireless protocol stacks.
  • Write and maintain radio firmware used for IC simulation, production test, lab evaluation, qualification, and characterization.
  • Build and maintain automated regression tests for the radio firmware.
  • Diagnose firmware, software, and architecture problems.
  • Write and maintain documentation and application notes.
  • Plan your own work, report progress to the project leader, and flag possible project risks.
  • Work with other teams on datasheets, architecture specifications, and development plans for new designs.

Requirements

  • Industry experience with embedded software on ARM or DSP cores.
  • Experience working on real-time embedded systems with very tight resource limits.
  • Strong skills in C and Python.
  • Experience writing assembly for at least one microcontroller family.
  • Experience with the full software lifecycle: requirements, design, implementation, testing, and deployment.
  • Experience with version control, such as Git.
  • Hands-on skill with bench test equipment such as logic analysers, debug probes, oscilloscopes, and spectrum analysers.
  • Strong problem solving and debugging skills.
  • Willingness to propose new ideas, build agreement across a team, and see tasks through to completion.
  • Ability to pick up new ideas quickly in unfamiliar fields.
  • Strong teamwork skills and a multidisciplinary outlook.
  • Ability to explain difficult technical material clearly.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.
  • Desirable: knowledge or experience in low-level drivers, low-power wireless protocol stacks (Bluetooth, Thread, Zigbee and similar), MAC and PHY techniques, software-defined radio, digital communication theory, DSP theory, or MATLAB.
  • Desirable: familiarity with embedded tools such as GCC, GDB, Make, and CMake.
  • Desirable: experience with the chip development flow and commercialization.
  • Desirable: understanding of hardware and software trade-offs and experience specifying hardware requirements with hardware engineers.
  • Desirable: familiarity with hardware description languages.
  • Desirable: experience with test methodology and automation, and familiarity with wireless test equipment.
  • Desirable: strong grounding in mathematics.
  • Desirable: published articles or conference presentations on technical topics.
