Description

The company makes personal finance products, and the Design Systems team builds the shared foundations that let product teams ship consistent, accessible experiences quickly.

The team works across React Native and web to design, build, document and maintain shared components, design tokens, patterns and tooling used daily by product engineers and designers.

The work sits where product engineering, design, accessibility and developer experience meet, with a focus on making the correct approach the simplest one: accessible components by default and clear guidance when tradeoffs are needed.

As a Design System Engineer, you will help expand the system behind the product, improving shared UI primitives, contributing to motion and interaction patterns, strengthening accessibility across the component library, and making the system easier to adopt through docs, examples and well-considered APIs.

This is a mid-level role.

Responsibilities

  • Build reusable React Native and web components that are accessible and usable from the first version.
  • Improve design system foundations, including components, tokens, patterns, documentation and tooling, so product teams can build consistent interfaces.
  • Work with designers, product engineers and other stakeholders to understand their needs, turn design intent into lasting implementations, and help teams adopt system patterns.
  • Find accessibility gaps and build patterns that support inclusive experiences, helping teams across the company think more carefully about accessibility in daily product work.
  • Work on motion design, micro-interactions, transitions and other small details that make the product feel intuitive and polished.
  • Write Storybook examples, usage guidance, migration notes and technical documentation so engineers can use the design system with confidence.
  • Help product teams migrate to shared components and patterns, collect feedback, and improve the system based on how it is used across the codebase.
  • Write thorough tests, keep implementation quality high, and review code to make the shared UI infrastructure more reliable over time.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of professional software engineering experience, ideally building user-facing product interfaces with React, React Native, TypeScript or similar technologies.
  • Strong frontend fundamentals and a habit of building UI that is reliable, maintainable and easy for other engineers to use.
  • Hands-on accessibility experience, or a clear interest in making digital products more inclusive, including keyboard behavior, screen readers, focus management, semantic structure, color contrast and usable interaction patterns.
  • Interest in design systems, including component APIs, design tokens, documentation, adoption, consistency and the trade-off between flexibility and standardization.
  • Comfortable collaborating closely with designers and engineers, moving between design intent, technical constraints and practical implementation.
  • Curiosity about motion design and interaction details. You do not need to be a motion specialist, but you want to help build thoughtful, accessible motion patterns.
  • Clear written and code communication: you can explain tradeoffs, document usage patterns and help other engineers understand how and why to use shared components.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, able to ask good questions and break larger improvements into safe, incremental steps.
  • Eager to grow in a mid-level role on a team that values craft, collaboration, accessibility and high-leverage systems work.
  • Preferred: experience contributing to or maintaining a design system, component library or shared frontend platform.
  • Preferred: experience with React Native, mobile accessibility, animation libraries or cross-platform UI patterns.
  • Preferred: familiarity with Storybook, Figma, design tokens, visual regression testing or frontend testing tools.
  • Preferred: experience supporting migrations or adoption of shared components across a large codebase.
