Description

The company builds space, defense, and national security technology, with a focus on mission-critical work from the ground to orbit.

This role sits on the Proposal Development Team in Pittsburgh, PA, or remote. You will report to the Director of Proposal Development.

You will write and architect technical proposals for commercial spacecraft delivery services and spacecraft systems. Candidates with a technical background may also help engineer the solutions being bid.

The role suits systems engineers, technical project managers, space scientists, and other strong technical thinkers who want more room for creative writing.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a team to produce technically credible, persuasive, and competitive aerospace proposals for NASA, the DoW, and other government and civilian customers.
  • Write original proposal content, including product descriptions, technical specifications, and performance requirements.
  • Help build win themes, storyboards, and strategic narratives.
  • Help write executive summaries and other high-stakes proposal sections.
  • Interview subject matter experts to collect technical information and fold it into proposals.
  • Turn technical documentation into polished, credible proposal content.
  • Work with graphic designers to make technical content visual and compelling.
  • Assemble, review, and edit proposals for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with guidelines.
  • Revise content based on feedback from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Guide other technical writers on the team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as engineering, the physical sciences, or a closely related area. Advanced study, relevant internships, or other relevant experience may be considered in place of professional experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in the aerospace industry or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of spacecraft systems and engineering principles.
  • Prior experience writing competitive funding proposals.
  • Ability to explain technical subjects through both prose and graphics.
  • Strategic thinking to build compelling technical storylines.
  • Strong critical thinking to catch technical, logical, and other errors.
  • Excellent writing, with a firm grasp of grammar, flow, tone, and concision.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Close attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Strong drive to deliver, improve, and win.
  • Ability to juggle multiple overlapping projects and meet deadlines.
  • Preferred: Past work as a systems engineer, program manager, or project manager in aerospace.
  • Preferred: Deep understanding of spacecraft systems and engineering principles.
  • Preferred: Experience writing proposals to NASA or the DoW.
