Senior Platform Engineer (Defence & Security)

The company's tech community is hiring a Senior Platform Engineer for its Defence & Security Business Unit in Helsinki.

The unit has around 70 people working on technically demanding projects with real societal value. You can own important technical decisions and build systems where reliability and security really count.

The role suits someone who likes designing and building large-scale on-premise and private cloud platforms, and who enjoys hands-on work with IaC, CI/CD, security and observability. You will solve complex infrastructure problems together with product teams and clients.

Your job is to turn security-critical infrastructure into a dependable platform that development teams can build on.

You will design, build and run on-premise infrastructure and private cloud platforms that support critical products and the business needs of clients.

You will sit in a consulting team that works closely with the client and in a productisation team that brings solutions to international markets. The role mixes hands-on engineering, collaboration and technical decision-making.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain modern on-premise and private cloud environments, including GPU-enabled infrastructure for AI workloads, so product teams can ship high-quality solutions.
• Build security, isolation and compliance into everything you create.
• Create scalable, resilient infrastructure that grows with demand and keeps digital services running on physical hardware and virtualization layers.
• Automate routine work so engineers can spend their time on higher-value tasks.
• Drive standardisation through shared tools, processes and configurations to cut complexity, ease maintenance and speed up delivery.
• Act as a trusted advisor to product teams and other stakeholders, understanding their requirements and providing the infrastructure they need.
• Turn complex, fragmented infrastructure into streamlined, scalable platforms that let teams move quickly and reliably.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience in platform, infrastructure or DevOps roles. There is no hard minimum, but these skills usually take 8+ years to build.
• Deep knowledge of on-premise and/or bare-metal infrastructure, including virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware vSphere, KVM, OpenStack), physical hardware and hardware-level monitoring.
• Solid infrastructure automation using IaC or configuration management tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, SaltStack, Puppet) together with scripting or programming (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell) for private clouds and bare metal.
• Strong grasp of container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes, OpenShift) and modern application architectures. You can read application code and reason about it to debug platform issues.
• Experience with enterprise networking, firewalls and IAM, and with applying strict security practices in air-gapped or highly regulated environments that meet industry standards and compliance rules.
• Fluent Finnish and English, both written and spoken.
• Willing to work 100% onsite.
• Finnish citizenship is required because of client and security regulations. The selected candidate must pass a security clearance process.
• Nice to have: strong CI/CD experience (e.g. GitLab CI, Jenkins, GitHub Enterprise Server or similar).
• Nice to have: hands-on work with self-hosted observability stacks (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/Opensearch).
• Nice to have: practical backend development skills.
• Nice to have: experience working closely with clients or business stakeholders.

Conditions

Based in Helsinki, working 100% onsite.

Finnish citizenship required, and the selected candidate must complete a security clearance process.
