The role supports the Systems Engineering & Integration Team program. It sits within the System Design & Requirements team and produces systems engineering work that helps define the Missile Defense System Specification for the Missile Defense Agency (MDA).

The requisition may be filled as a Principal Systems Engineer at Level 3 or as a Sr. Principal Systems Engineer at Level 4, depending on your qualifications. The job is in Huntsville, AL.

  • Work in an MBSE environment to develop system-of-systems requirements through system and component trade studies and analysis.
  • Help publish change notices to the MDA system specification and update requirements databases, architecture models, interface definitions and DoDAF 2+ compliant design packages, so system and element requirements are documented, allocated and traceable.
  • Write up analysis results as reports and briefings for review by SD&R and SE&IT stakeholders.
  • Prepare and deliver briefings to your team, to the MDA and to supporting stakeholders.
  • Lead small engineering teams in producing these products.

  • Alternatively, hold a PhD with 1 year of related experience for Level 3, or 4 years for Level 4.
  • Have strong prior experience using Cameo and DOORS.
  • Show a strong technical background in architecture development, functional decomposition, requirements development and allocation, and interface definition using system-modeling tools.
  • Show knowledge of MBSE and of using SysML to describe the behavior of a complex DoD system.
  • Show knowledge of at least one missile defense or related domain, such as Aegis Weapons Systems, Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD), Glide Phase Intercept (GPI), Hypersonic and Ballistic Tracking Space Sensor (HBTSS), Fire Control, C2BMC, MDS sensors (EO/IR/RF), IAMD Battle Command System (IBCS), Space-Based Interceptor (SBI), Next-Generation Interceptor (NGI), Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) systems, Cruise Missile Defense, or Air Defense.
  • Think critically and communicate concepts clearly in papers, presentations and discussions.
  • Work both independently and within a small team, and take on technical leadership at times.
  • Be willing and able to work on the customer site at the Boeing Jetplex.
  • Be willing and able to travel locally, up to 10% of the time, to Redstone Arsenal.
  • Hold a current, active, in-scope U.S. Government Secret security clearance at the time of application. This is required to start.
