Description

The company is a fan-founded business that brings anime and manga to a large community. It serves more than 100 million fans in over 200 countries and territories, through streaming, theatrical releases, games, merchandise and events.

This role sits in Growth Marketing, a global team focused on growing and keeping the subscriber base. The User Acquisition group combines performance marketing, creative, analytics, product, finance and regional expertise to turn audience insight into growth across markets.

You will be a senior individual contributor and the subject-matter expert for paid social, with no formal people management, reporting to the Senior Director, Growth Marketing.

Responsibilities

  • Own the paid-social acquisition strategy for a large share of markets, platforms, campaigns or audience segments, in line with growth targets and the direction set by Growth Marketing leadership.
  • Build and run full-funnel plans on Meta, TikTok, Snapchat and newer social platforms, with a focus on performance and conversion.
  • Turn company and global growth priorities into channel strategies, investment proposals, test roadmaps and market plans.
  • Write annual and quarterly portfolio plans covering priorities, investment scenarios, targets and key assumptions.
  • Track results against subscriber acquisition, customer acquisition cost, return on ad spend, lifetime value, conversion, retention quality and incremental growth.
  • Spot opportunities, risks and shifts in market conditions, and recommend changes to strategy, spend and execution.
  • Make day-to-day portfolio and campaign spend decisions within approved budgets, and escalate material changes carrying significant financial or business risk.
  • Balance global consistency with regional consumer behavior, culture, platform dynamics and local requirements.
  • Set up scalable optimization practices for audiences, bidding, placements, campaign structure, creative testing and budget allocation.
  • Diagnose complex acquisition problems with advanced analysis and choose corrective actions.
  • Work with Analytics and Data Science on attribution, incrementality, forecasting, experimentation and measurement, including data limits and conflicting signals.
  • Find systemic trends and scalable practices across markets and platforms that improve portfolio efficiency.
  • Build business cases from performance data, market insight, subscriber economics and expected return.
  • Define benchmarks, standards, reporting and decision frameworks that raise the quality of paid-social execution.
  • Turn complex performance data into portfolio-level insight for growth strategy, forecasting and planning.
  • Name measurement risks and limits, and explain what they mean for decisions.
  • Set paid-social creative strategy with Creative, Brand, Regional Marketing and agency teams, using performance evidence to guide priorities and resources.
  • Build a structured experiment roadmap covering audiences, formats, messaging, platform features, landing pages and conversion.
  • Lead multi-market tests from hypothesis through execution, measurement, interpretation and wider rollout.
  • Turn performance data into creative insight and clear recommendations for internal and external partners.
  • Make sure creative fits platform behavior, cultural nuance, brand standards and regional needs.
  • Assess new tools and practices for reliability, brand fit, operational risk and business value before recommending wider use.
  • Advise Growth Marketing and cross-functional leaders, shaping acquisition priorities, resources, creative investment and go-to-market choices with data and clear trade-offs.
  • Lead complex cross-functional initiatives with Marketing, Creative, Product, Analytics, Finance and regional stakeholders from problem definition to evaluation.
  • Present results, recommendations, risks and investment options to senior leaders.
  • Align stakeholders with different priorities and market views, and resolve issues or escalate decisions with major financial, strategic or reputational impact.
  • Create playbooks, governance practices and knowledge-sharing methods that raise paid-social capability across the organization.
  • Represent paid social in broader growth planning, so market, platform and audience insight informs cross-functional decisions.
  • Set the strategy, performance expectations and operating rhythm for external agencies and platform partners.
  • Hold agencies accountable for execution quality, innovation, financial discipline and business outcomes.
  • Work with Procurement and Finance where needed to assess agency scope, platform spend and commercial value.
  • Recommend agency selection, scope changes, performance remediation and renewals based on needs and results.
  • Build relationships with major and emerging social platforms to learn about new capabilities, opportunities and competitors.
  • Use agency and platform contacts to find industry practices and judge their fit for the acquisition strategy.
  • Coach and advise other user-acquisition and marketing professionals, without formal authority.
  • Review and improve the work of colleagues, agencies and partners.
  • Lead high-impact programs, set priorities, clarify roles and drive delivery across contributors.
  • Develop functional standards and reusable practices that strengthen paid social across markets and teams.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in paid social, user acquisition, growth or performance marketing, including owning complex or multi-market programs.
  • A track record of building and scaling paid-social acquisition strategies with measurable results for subscribers, revenue or customer growth.
  • Advanced hands-on skill on Meta, TikTok, Snapchat and other major or emerging social ad platforms.
  • Experience managing large media budgets and making data-based allocation decisions across campaigns, platforms or markets.
  • Strong grasp of performance measurement, attribution, incrementality, forecasting, experimentation and customer lifetime value.
  • Experience solving complex, unclear business problems on your own and turning analysis into strategy.
  • Experience influencing senior stakeholders and leading cross-functional work without direct authority.
  • Strong understanding of platform-specific creative, audience behavior and cultural differences across international markets.
  • Experience presenting complex performance information and recommendations clearly to all audiences, including executives.
  • Experience managing agency relationships and holding outside partners accountable for results.
  • Experience using sound judgment on large media spend, weighing financial trade-offs and recommending action on incomplete or conflicting data.
  • Experience creating reusable frameworks, operating standards or playbooks adopted across campaigns, markets or teams.
  • Ability to work largely independently while knowing when a decision needs senior review or escalation.
  • Background in subscription, streaming, entertainment, anime, gaming or fandom-driven brands is strongly preferred.
