Senior Manager, Software Engineering

Description

The company is a consumer energy platform that lets homeowners discover, buy, finance, install, monitor and manage home energy products and services in one place. It covers solar, battery storage, HVAC, heat pumps and more, and serves hundreds of thousands of homeowners across 30+ states.

You will lead the engineering teams behind the digital acquisition experience, including the multi-product front door and the funnel that turns interested leads into qualified appointments. You will also lead the Journey teams, which build onboarding, service and support in the consumer app.

This is a player-coach role. You will manage roughly 8 to 15 engineers across two squads and work closely with Product and Design. You will set direction, review designs and write code when useful. AI agents are core tools for how the company builds software, and you will help your teams use them well.

Responsibilities

• Hire, develop and keep strong engineers and leads. Set clear expectations, give direct feedback and build career paths so that no system depends on a single person.
• Set the roadmap with Product and Design, make trade-offs openly and state what the teams are not working on. Deliver work that depends on platform, data and partner teams.
• Build instrumentation and experimentation into every release and use the results to decide next steps.
• Own the outcomes of the journey: the experiences that turn interested homeowners into customers, keep them informed through installation and make it easy to get help afterward.
• Keep standards high through specs, tests, design and code review, and responsible use of AI tools.
• Be accountable for system health, on-call coverage and cloud cost in your area.
• Work with Product, Design, Marketing, Customer Experience, Data and Platform. Settle priorities when views differ and keep leadership informed of progress and risks.

Requirements

• 10+ years in software engineering, including 5+ years managing engineers and leading multiple teams.
• A proven record of hiring well, developing people and building teams with strong technical leads.
• Deep hands-on skill in Node.js and TypeScript, and in designing and consuming REST APIs, enough to review designs and code.
• Experience with web experimentation and analytics, including A/B testing, funnel instrumentation and conversion-focused product work.
• A track record of delivering large consumer-facing projects, with sound judgment on priorities and trade-offs.
• Strong partnership with Product and Design, and the ability to turn business goals into technical plans.
• Practical knowledge of agentic engineering.
• Experience with React Native or mobile apps, and with integrations involving external partners.
