Senior Manager, Data Science - Bureau Data Strategy

The company built its early business on personalizing every credit card offer with statistical modeling and relational databases, and has since grown into a large data-driven financial company.

The Bureau Data Strategy team sits within US Card. It turns raw credit bureau data into one of the most widely used datasets at the company, and shapes how that data feeds underwriting decisions.

The team includes data scientists, software engineers and product managers, and works on huge volumes of customer records across billions of rows.

Responsibilities

• Work with data scientists, software engineers and product managers to build a product customers want to use.
• Use tools such as Python, Conda, AWS, H2O and Spark to find insights in large volumes of numeric and text data.
• Build machine learning models across the full lifecycle: design, training, evaluation, validation and deployment.
• Explain complex technical work to business stakeholders in terms of concrete goals.

Requirements

• Hold, or be on track to earn before the scheduled start date, one of the following: a Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field plus 7 years of data analytics experience; a Master's degree in a quantitative field, or an MBA with a quantitative concentration, plus 5 years of data analytics experience; or a PhD in a quantitative field plus 2 years of data analytics experience.
• Quantitative fields include Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science or a closely related area.
• At least 2 years of experience using open source programming languages for large-scale data analysis.
• At least 2 years of experience with machine learning.
• At least 2 years of experience with relational databases.
• Preferred: a PhD in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) plus 4 years of data analytics experience.
• Preferred: at least 1 year of experience with AWS.
• Preferred: at least 1 year of experience managing people.
• Preferred: at least 5 years of experience with Python, Scala or R for large-scale data analysis.
• Preferred: at least 5 years of experience with machine learning.
• You should also be customer focused, willing to challenge conventional thinking, comfortable with open source tools and cloud platforms, and skilled at working with data from many sources and formats.

Conditions

The company will consider sponsoring a new qualified applicant for employment authorization for this role.

Full-time base salary is $229,900 to $262,400 in McLean, VA, and $250,800 to $286,200 in New York, NY, for this title. Part-time pay is prorated to the agreed hours. Candidates hired into other locations receive the range for that location, and the exact offer is stated in the offer letter.

The role is eligible for performance-based incentive pay, which may include cash bonuses and or long-term incentives. Incentives may be discretionary or non-discretionary depending on the plan.
