This Data Scientist III role sits on an enterprise data science team that uses analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence to solve business problems, building and deploying solutions that improve operations and decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Help build predictive models and simulation workflows for digital twins of upstream CHO cell culture bioprocesses.
  • Create, test and assess models of nutrient use, metabolite build-up, cell growth, viability and productivity.
  • Examine bioprocess data, including time-series bioreactor readings, offline assay results, spent media data and process metadata.
  • Write Python and scientific computing code to process data, run simulations, visualize results and evaluate models.
  • Work with scientists, engineers and software developers to summarize modeling results, record assumptions and support experiment planning.

Requirements

  • Master's or PhD in biochemical engineering, chemical engineering, biotechnology, computational biology, systems biology, bioinformatics, cell biology or a closely related field.
  • Academic or industry experience in upstream bioprocessing, cell culture, process modeling, computational biology, data science or a related scientific area.
  • Solid understanding of CHO cell culture and upstream bioprocessing, including media, feeding strategies, bioreactor operation, metabolites, growth, viability, productivity and process parameters.
  • Hands-on Python skills for scientific computing, data analysis, visualization, simulation or model implementation.
  • Experience with bioprocess or biological datasets, especially time-series data, assay results, spent media data or process metadata.
  • Familiarity with mechanistic, statistical, machine learning or hybrid modeling approaches for biological or process systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with close attention to data quality and scientific detail.
  • Ability to work well across cross-functional teams and contribute to projects under guidance from senior scientists or project leads.
  • Preferred: familiarity with PAT systems, bioreactor data infrastructure, LIMS, ELN or MES environments, cloud-based data workflows or software-enabled scientific tools.
  • Preferred: exposure to digital twin modeling, virtual experimentation, metabolic modeling or process simulation.
