Together, we deliver innovative and ethical solutions that help businesses achieve their ambitions faster.

As a Senior Implementation Engineer at Adyen, you will lead the design and delivery of mission-critical payment integrations for some of the world’s largest global companies.

You will influence how global enterprises design and operate their payment infrastructure at scale. Your work will directly impact the reliability, performance, and scalability of payment flows used by millions of end customers worldwide.

This role is focused on solving complex, high-scale technical challenges. You will also shape technical direction, influence product evolution, and mentor implementers across the organization.

This position is based in Toronto, and the ideal candidate is both consultative and technical.

You will design and scale highly resilient, high-performance integration architectures while helping raise the technical bar across the implementation organization.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver complex, multi-region enterprise integration projects
  • Design scalable, high-availability architectures for global merchants handling large transaction volumes
  • Define and ensure technical standards across implementation engineering teams
  • Act as a strategic technical advisor in both pre-sales and delivery phases, shaping solutions alongside Sales and senior merchant stakeholders
  • Shape industry standards and the broader ecosystem by defining how large-scale payment architectures are built and scaled
  • Foster best practices in reliability, scalability, security, and system design (e.g. idempotency, fault tolerance)
  • Mentor and support Implementation Engineers across the organization
  • Partner with Product and Engineering to influence platform evolution and new product design
  • Manage critical escalations and ensure stability of high-scale merchant integrations

Requirements

  • 12+ years of experience in software engineering or technical consulting with deep API integration experience
  • Deep system design and distributed systems expertise
  • Ability to operate as a solution architect and trusted advisor in complex, enterprise environments
  • Experience contributing to production-level systems with pragmatic engineering trade-offs
  • Comfortable engaging with senior technical and business stakeholders
  • Proven ability to mentor and develop engineers
  • Solid decision-making capability in complex and ambiguous environments
  • Passion for raising technical excellence across teams and organizations
  • You thrive in environments where collaboration, accountability, and impact go hand in hand
