Description

The company's Pro Cycling team is hiring a senior full-stack engineer with a data focus to build and run applications for riders, coaches and performance staff.

You will sit between the cycling team and the central sports data platform (SDP), whose data engineers manage the underlying data.

The work covers performance dashboards, race-day tools and planning software for team time trials (TTT).

The role sits within the team's central IT support function and connects day-to-day engineering with training, planning and race execution.

Responsibilities

  • Build, maintain and keep improving applications covering performance dashboards, race-day tools and TTT planning, making them easy to use daily and dependable under pressure.
  • Turn the team's requirements into clear technical specifications.
  • Integrate SDP data products, including databases and APIs, into working applications.
  • Give the SDP team structured feedback on data quality, availability and functional gaps so solutions meet end-user needs.
  • Work with the cycling team's data scientist to turn scientific models, such as power/VO2, TTT aerodynamic simulation and mean-max power, into deployed tools.
  • Own the engineering of those tools, including packaging, user interface, deployment and operational reliability, and keep each one true to its scientific purpose.
  • Deploy and operate the team's applications using the existing Infrastructure-as-Code setup, CI/CD pipelines and containerised delivery.
  • Apply strong security practices throughout development and operations to protect athlete and performance data.
  • Work with coaches, the data scientist and performance staff to turn real-world needs into technical solutions.
  • Stay in touch with the broader SDP/APC engineering group, hold high standards for code quality, reviews and documentation, and build applications that stay maintainable over the long term.

Requirements

  • Higher education in IT or equivalent work experience.
  • Fluency in German and English.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in full-stack software engineering, data application engineering or a comparable technical role.
  • Proven experience building production-grade full-stack applications that are reliable, usable and maintainable over time.
  • Strong collaboration skills: you engage coaches, data scientists, performance staff and platform teams, manage expectations and turn operational needs into clear specifications and intuitive tools.
  • Strong backend skills in Python, FastAPI, TypeScript/JavaScript, Node.js and REST API design.
  • Hands-on frontend experience with React, Vite, TanStack Query/Table, Tailwind CSS, Radix UI/shadcn and PWA fundamentals.
  • Confidence with SQL, BigQuery, dbt-modelled datasets and APIs, using central data products rather than building parallel pipelines.
  • Practical cloud and DevOps experience, ideally with GCP, Cloud Run, GKE, Cloud Functions, Docker, Kubernetes, existing Terraform foundations and GitHub Actions/CI/CD.
  • A quality-focused approach: Git, thorough code reviews and automated testing with pytest, Vitest and Playwright.
  • A proactive, hands-on attitude. You take ownership, stay pragmatic and calm in critical moments, including race-day support, and apply strong security practices.
  • Clear documentation skills and a commitment to sustainable delivery for a small team, contributing to shared SDP/APC engineering standards.
  • Nice to have: early leadership experience, web scraping, third-party integrations, mapping tools (Leaflet), or BI and visualisation tools (Recharts, QuickSight).

Conditions

The minimum salary under the applicable collective agreement is EUR 2,535 gross per month, as legally required to disclose; the actual compensation is market-oriented and significantly higher.

The company values diversity and welcomes applications regardless of age, skin colour, religion, gender, sexual orientation or origin.
