Description

The company is a digital insurer serving over 4 million customers, with plans to grow further in the UK market.

The CIO team has received major recent investment in data and technology and works on projects that turn business goals into reality.

The company runs on its 4Cs culture of collaboration, creativity and continuous improvement.

The team is looking for people eager to make a difference. If you match only part of the list below, you are still encouraged to apply, even if you are not 100% sure you fit.

Responsibilities

  • Work across the full breadth of a solution, not a single technology, joining up services, data and interfaces end to end for customers and colleagues.
  • Work in agile teams spanning application support and change, and help shape the technical direction.
  • Lead technically, make sound decisions and manage stakeholder expectations.
  • Design, build, change and support complex software systems that follow agreed standards and sound engineering practice.
  • Deliver end-to-end solutions across several services, platforms and integrations, including AI-enabled components where they fit.
  • Estimate engineering work, guide colleagues and mentor team members for strong delivery and professional growth.
  • Debug, test and tune complex code for performance, quality and reliability.
  • Use AI tools to speed up development, testing, maintenance and documentation, while keeping people in charge of key decisions.
  • Write effective prompts, review AI-generated outputs critically and help colleagues adopt AI responsibly.
  • Build AI-enabled solutions that meet security, privacy, governance and cost requirements, and assess new tools and ways of working to keep improving.

Requirements

  • Strong technical skills, curiosity and a drive to build high-quality, user-focused solutions. Breadth, judgement and the ability to learn matter more to the team than any one technology, so apply even if you match most of this list.
  • Extensive hands-on experience supporting and building enterprise applications used by customers and employees.
  • Experience delivering end-to-end work across front-end, services and integration layers.
  • Solid software engineering basics: object-oriented design, design patterns, problem solving, peer review, unit testing and test-driven development.
  • Skill in one or more modern programming languages and a readiness to pick up new ones.
  • Good grasp of APIs and integration, including RESTful services, token authentication such as JWT, JSON and XML, plus CI/CD, DevOps, source control and automated testing tools.
  • Experience designing, integrating or supporting AI-enabled solutions, with an understanding of testing, assurance and governance needs.
  • Hands-on use of AI engineering tools for code, tests and documentation, including writing prompts and reviewing outputs critically.
  • Keen to keep learning, explore new technologies and AI, and share knowledge to raise engineering standards.

Conditions

The role is hybrid, with attendance at the Bexhill or Leicester office at least once a week and at quarterly departmental events, so you must live within a 90-minute commute of one of these offices.

Visa sponsorship is not offered for these roles, now or in the foreseeable future.

Candidates go through thorough referencing, including credit and criminal record checks.

The company is an equal opportunities employer and a Disability Confident employer, welcoming applications from all suitably skilled people and providing fair access to support and reasonable adjustments throughout recruitment.

Benefits

  • A competitive salary plus an annual 4Cs performance bonus open to all colleagues.
  • Flexible hybrid working, which you can discuss with your recruiter.
  • Life assurance at 4x salary, income protection at no extra cost, and pension contributions matched up to 10%.
  • Financial wellbeing perks including cashback, discounts, independent mortgage advice free of charge and access to financial wellbeing support at no cost.
  • Mental wellbeing help: the Thrive mental health app, a round-the-clock colleague assistance programme, in-house mental health first aiders, support groups and a dedicated support team.
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, with the option to buy or sell 1 week.
  • Health cash back plans, dental plans, discounted health assessments, cycle to work and tech schemes, discounted and free onsite facilities, and social events through the year.
  • Support, training and development to help you grow.
