Senior DS Engineer

Description

The role helps modernize wired network design and implementation for Air Force and Space Force bases, and this opening is for work at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Hawaii.

As the senior technical resource, you support survey and implementation work and help plan, carry out, test and sustain the wired network alongside the base's staff and the company's team.

The work supports the company's ongoing BIM contract.

Responsibilities

• Solve problems and advise less experienced field engineers.
• Guide the team on maintaining equipment and infrastructure.
• Advise on and install newer or more advanced technology suited to customer needs.
• Run end-to-end fiber optic testing with OTDR, power meters and other tools.
• Report findings and resolve issues that stall progress.
• Make recommendations based on equipment assessments and checkups.
• Train internal and external groups on product features and specifications.
• Strengthen client relationships by improving how they work with products.
• Review junior team members' work and coach them toward accurate submissions.
• Check in with the team daily on timelines and goals.
• Work with government points of contact to arrange design, installation, base access, clearances, escorts, personnel and equipment so tasks finish on time.
• Help the PM keep project stakeholder communication clear, consistent, timely and accurate.
• Contribute distribution systems design input (ISP/OSP) and technical recommendations to program and operations teams.
• Lead small implementation teams or own specific work scopes at a site.
• Manage the technical, administrative and operational side of assigned projects.
• Write technical project plans, proposals, reports, task order and administrative reports.
• Deliver detailed technical services on assigned tasks.
• Plan and recommend how task workload is divided.
• Update as-built documentation and records from splicing and test results.
• Attend customer meetings as the main network engineering contact.
• Work with vendors, other agencies and client staff.
• Coordinate deliverables and products and check their quality.
• Keep up with relevant technology as assigned.
• Take on special projects as needed.
• Review project requirements and shape strategies for future work.

Requirements

• Experience with cabling, network infrastructure, network systems and wireless networks.
• BA or BS degree and 5+ years in DS engineering, ideally in a DOW environment on IT upgrade projects.
• US citizenship required.
• Active Secret clearance required.
• Familiar with distribution systems (ISP/OSP) design and implementation documents such as design documentation, as-built diagrams, rack elevations and circuit connectivity matrices.
• Familiar with all aspects of fiber testing.
• Thorough grasp of wired and general IT functions.
• Able to work effectively in a virtual team setting.
• Able to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures, documents and government regulations.
• Committed to teamwork and working collaboratively.
• Strong coordination and organization skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Desired: experience using MS Visio or related CAD tools.
• Desired: BICSI related certifications.

Conditions

Regular position, on-site at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, requiring residence in the Honolulu area for daily on-site project support.

No travel pay is associated with this position; travel required is less than 10%.

40 scheduled hours per week.

The work runs 7+ months, with potential opportunities to move onto other initiatives on completion.

Likely salary range is $92,307 to $124,887. This is not a guarantee; pay is set by experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements, and may fall outside this range.

Must currently hold a Secret clearance or be able to obtain one; no Public Trust or other clearance required.
