Senior Data Scientist

Description

The role supports the upkeep, monitoring and ongoing improvement of production analytics and machine learning solutions for clients in North America.

You will make sure models and data processes stay accurate, reliable, compliant and in line with business and client needs.

The work centres on operational performance, resolving issues and steadily improving existing solutions.

Responsibilities

• Analyse and document large datasets, choosing suitable analytical, machine learning and data mining methods to surface useful insights.
• Build and upkeep data structures, storage, processing tools and analytical pipelines.
• Track model performance and stability across use cases, and run validation, back-testing and performance reports.
• Look into data and model problems, find their root causes, and deliver fixes or model updates.
• Keep documentation, version control, audit trails and data quality practices current to meet governance and compliance needs.
• Evaluate model outputs, carry out ROI and benefit analyses, and present findings on model performance and analytical processes. Help set best practices and business assumptions that keep solutions reliable and performance consistent.

Requirements

• A solid command of probability, statistical inference, optimisation algorithms, linear algebra and calculus.
• Knowing when and how to apply regression, machine learning, AI, deep learning and other advanced modelling approaches to extract insights from data and automate them.
• A firm grip on cross-validation and on controlling unnecessary complexity, including regularisation, Bayesian shrinkage, and in-sample versus out-of-sample testing. Fluency with statistical significance tests and Monte Carlo simulation.
• Able to write code close to production standard in at least one general-purpose language such as Python or C++.
• Familiarity with current tools for large-scale data processing, such as the Apache family (Hadoop, Spark), modern databases including graph and time-series types, and natural language processing for parsing unstructured data.
