Description

The company makes high-end mass spectrometers used in research worldwide, from its site in Bremen, which has about 500 employees.

The company's Life Sciences MS, Inorganic MS and Trace Elemental Analysis products lead their markets globally.

This is a role combining scientific investigation, data science, software engineering and deep instrument knowledge, aimed at improving instrument performance, calibration, diagnostics and reliability.

The work is on-site and involves regular hands-on time with spectrometers, including prototypes, and close work with Research, Production/Operations and Support.

Responsibilities

  • Design, run and validate experiments using data from instruments, multiple sensors and several modalities.
  • Build and test algorithms for diagnosing faults and modeling failure modes.
  • Convert exploratory analyses and prototypes into reusable, well-tested research tools and reproducible experiment frameworks.
  • Handle data versioning, metadata and experiment tracking, and scale runs from laptops to servers and clusters.
  • Create safe programmatic interfaces to instrument control software, firmware and test stands, including autonomous agentic workflows.
  • Package, install and validate new versions in lab and production test environments.
  • Work with Research, Production Engineering, IT/Operations and Support to keep deployments reliable and traceable.
  • Turn observations into trusted, reproducible diagnostic insights and tools that other instruments and teams can reuse.

Requirements

  • Background in physics, applied mathematics or a related quantitative or scientific field, with a solid record of independent research and quantitative modeling.
  • Hands-on experience in scientific investigation, experimental design and analysis of complex real-world instrument or experimental data.
  • Experience building research software and turning scientific findings into diagnostic, predictive or decision-support tools.
  • Comfortable working directly with physical instruments and deploying and validating software in controlled lab or production test environments.
  • Python, clean APIs, modular design, testing and reproducible research workflows.
  • Data analysis and visualization, SQL/NoSQL and file-based data systems, diagnostic modeling, experiment tracking and model/version management.
  • Strong Linux and Bash, CI, containerization and server or cluster execution. C++ or Rust is a plus.
  • Ability to install, configure, troubleshoot and validate research software, and to turn manual processes into documented, increasingly automated workflows.
  • Full professional English, written and spoken.

Conditions

Standard Monday to Friday schedule.
