Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain REST APIs and backend services in Python.
• Build scalable APIs with FastAPI, Flask or similar frameworks, and define request and response models and validation with Pydantic.
• Write and maintain API specifications using OpenAPI or Swagger.
• Add authentication and authorization using OAuth 2.0, JWT and related security methods.
• Connect APIs to databases, downstream applications and external services.
• Handle errors, logging, monitoring and exceptions robustly.
• Develop asynchronous and high-performance Python services where needed.
• Write unit and integration tests with pytest, review code and apply sound engineering practices.
• Support CI/CD, deployments, troubleshooting and production support.

Requirements

• You have hands-on experience building scalable, secure, production-grade backend services and REST APIs, along with solid software engineering fundamentals.
• Must have: Python, FastAPI, REST APIs, Pydantic, SQL, pytest, Git, authentication and authorization for APIs, and asynchronous programming.
• Good to Have: Azure, Docker, Kubernetes or AKS, Azure DevOps, CI/CD, SQLAlchemy, PostgreSQL, Kafka or Event Hubs, OpenTelemetry and Azure API Management.
• A solid understanding of OOP, SOLID principles, design patterns, microservices, clean architecture, secure coding, API design and code quality.
• 4 to 8 years of software or backend development experience, with strong hands-on work in Python and APIs.
