Proposal Program Manager - Technical Writer

Description

The defense division of the company is hiring a proposal program manager who also writes technical content. The role is hybrid, based in East Aurora, NY, with the work location listed as Buffalo, NY.

You will turn complex engineering and program details into proposal content that helps the company move into new and growing markets. The job also involves producing clear, accurate documentation that helps end users and stakeholders understand and use the company's products and services.

You will work day to day with engineers, product managers, subject matter experts, and customers. The reporting line is the Program and Proposal Management Director.

Responsibilities

• Research, write, edit, and complete technical proposal volumes covering the company's technologies and products for its defense division.
• Turn technical, engineering, and program information from subject matter experts into clear explanations of how the company's technology can solve a problem or protect warfighters on the battlefield.
• Keep tone, formatting, terminology, and process consistent across every proposal you work on.
• Handle several writing assignments at once on tight, quick-turn schedules without letting quality or compliance slip.
• Work with cross-functional teams to make sure content is accurate, complete, and relevant.
• Make sure content follows company branding, legal, and security rules.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in engineering, systems engineering, or a closely related technical field.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience, including some experience creating and presenting technical content.
• Ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance.
• Strong written communication, grammar, and editing skills.
• A proven track record of making complex information easy to understand for different audiences.
• Careful attention to detail, consistency, and following style guides.
• Ability to work on your own and juggle several prioritized projects under tight deadlines.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Visio, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.
• Desirable: familiarity with Dynamics 365 or CRM systems.
• Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to draw out information from both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Self-motivated and organized, able to manage many priorities on tight timelines.

Conditions

Base salary range is $90,000 to $130,000 per year for the Buffalo, NY location.

Actual pay depends on location, experience, and performance. The base salary range is one part of the total compensation, which can also include annual bonuses, an employee stock purchase plan, an open paid time off policy, and region-specific benefits.

The role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information.
