Senior Principal Software Engineer

Description

The company builds flight control and actuation systems for commercial and military aircraft, with a focus on high-performance products that make flight safer and more efficient.

This role leads software development for advanced flight control and actuation systems, in safety-critical and real-time embedded settings.

Reports to the Director of Engineering, Product Integrity and Technology Business Development.

Hybrid working, based in Tewkesbury, GBR.

Responsibilities

• Set the software architecture and technical direction for flight control and actuation systems.
• Write real-time embedded software for actuation systems and flight control computers.
• Work with hardware, systems and test engineers so the software integrates cleanly with the company's actuation products.
• Keep software compliant with DO-178C and ARP4754A across the whole development lifecycle.
• Coach engineers and encourage good practice in safety-critical software work.
• Lead rigorous verification and validation of mission-critical software.

Requirements

• 15+ years in software engineering, with substantial work on aerospace or safety-critical systems.
• Strong C/C++ for embedded systems, including experience writing software for flight control electronics.
• Deep knowledge of deterministic, fault-tolerant design for flight control.
• Solid understanding of DO-178C certification and related standards.
• A Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field.
• Nice to have: model-based development with MATLAB/Simulink.
• Nice to have: familiarity with ARINC standards and MIL-STD protocols.
• Nice to have: background in flight control actuation and fly-by-wire systems.
