Description

You will lead the Automation and Communication scope for HVDC projects, based in Glasgow or Birmingham. The role involves many interfaces and varied technical work, with chances to learn and grow on potential future projects around the world.

The team works in a flexible, open and cooperative way. HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) is a product group within the company that designs, builds and sells direct current transmission systems worldwide. The technology carries electricity over long distances, links grids, and transmits power through subsea cables.

You will join the engineering management team, which is busy because demand for these solutions is growing and the company is expanding to help clients meet their environmental targets. The company relies on its people, so leaders are expected to develop and empower their teams and to live by the company values.

Responsibilities

  • Make sure engineering work is built on complete information and that all multidisciplinary inputs are included.
  • Lead the development of new solutions for complex projects and difficult technical problems.
  • Drive all engineering activities on the project to completion.
  • Coordinate one engineering discipline across several projects.
  • Support testing, installation and commissioning with technical input.
  • Design and run experiments, analyse and interpret the results, and prepare complete project documents for your area.
  • Deliver cost-effective, quality solutions within budget and contract terms, and keep to safety standards while managing risks.
  • Build work plans and cost estimates, and review and approve scope, budget and schedule for assignments.
  • Work directly with customers, officials, contractors and suppliers.
  • Manage large projects or processes with limited oversight, coach and delegate work to less senior professionals, and tackle complex problems.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in a relevant technical field.
  • Previous experience in the energy sector.
  • Experience in project management and bid management.
  • A structured, driven approach, with a habit of improving processes and bringing new ideas.
  • Comfort building networks and working closely with people, and the ability to work independently toward firm deadlines.
  • Willingness to meet customers and take part in technical negotiations to support your team when needed.
