Description

The digital multi-factor authentication (MFA) architecture and design team sets authentication strategy for digital fraud prevention across the company.

The team works with Fraud Policy, Fraud Requirements, Fraud Analytics, Technology and Identity groups to design and validate authentication frameworks that cut fraud losses, protect customer access and let operational response scale.

The team shapes authentication rule design, supports new approaches to digital access control, and leads company-wide work on mitigating threats tied to authentication fraud.

Responsibilities

  • Be the main architecture and design expert for MFA within digital fraud prevention, keeping work consistent with the company's risk appetite and authentication strategy.
  • Work with Fraud Policy, Fraud Requirements and Fraud Analytics to build and maintain risk-based authentication settings that lower fraud losses with minimal disruption to customers.
  • Review fraud patterns across digital channels, help shape investigation and response, and adjust rules as new threats appear.
  • Serve as the technical expert on authentication journeys, helping Fraud Operations, Technology and business colleagues understand orchestration flows, decision outcomes and the data behind risk decisions.
  • Design MFA rule changes and check them after launch, confirming they catch fraud as intended without harming customer access or operational volumes.
  • Improve fraud detection and error monitoring dashboards, focusing on automated API health checks and real-time alerts that support investigation and fixes.
  • Advise on what is technically feasible for fraud prevention initiatives, coordinate with business, CISO and technology partners, and keep policy applied consistently across platforms.
  • Build backups, run structured MFA architecture training, and mentor colleagues on fraud risk frameworks and investigation support.
  • Track authentication fraud trends and report insights to governance forums to guide mitigation plans and control recommendations.
  • Regularly review processes for efficiency and push for automation in authentication monitoring, rule validation and fraud reporting to improve accuracy and reduce overhead. Stated goals of these changes are to be met.

Requirements

  • Work closely with business, risk and technology partners on both project work and longer-term strategy, including defining business requirements, presenting mitigation strategies to senior leaders, and contributing to authentication design and fraud risk architecture.
  • Communicate well, relate well to others and solve problems effectively.
  • Show strong analytical skills, turning complex data into clear actions.
  • Work independently, influence stakeholders and drive initiatives across cross-functional teams.
  • Have demonstrated experience with Agile delivery and project management methods.
  • Have proven expertise in digital platforms, including mobile and online channels, API-based authentication, device and behavioral intelligence, and risk-based multifactor strategies.
  • Be familiar with device fingerprinting, orchestration layers and customer authentication, with some programming experience.
  • Hold a bachelor's or university degree.
  • Strongest fit areas: analytical thinking, controls lifecycle, credible challenge, governance, policy, procedure and regulation, and risk management lifecycle.
  • Preferred: 6+ years of experience in fraud risk, digital platforms, programming or a related field.
  • Preferred: a master's degree.
  • Strongly preferred: experience with C, C++ and Java.
  • Preferred: experience with SQL, data warehousing and Tableau.
