Principal / Sr. Principal Software Engineer (C++ and TS Clearance)

Description

The role sits in the Engineering and Sciences group of the company's mission systems unit, which supplies mission-enabling solutions for global security.

The team is part of an enterprise-wide digital transformation that uses model-based engineering, DevSecOps and Agile methods to deliver national defense products and capabilities.

This is a Principal or Sr. Principal Software Engineer position in Woodland Hills, CA. It may be filled at either level, or at a higher grade based on the qualifications below.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor junior software engineers.
• Build C/C++ software that turns a research codebase into production-ready code using modern C++ features.
• Build software infrastructure for CI/CD, software metrics collection and MLOps.
• Design and implement software systems, applications and architectures that are more modular, scalable and reliable, while keeping precision, accuracy and speed to meet performance requirements.
• Apply and maintain industry software engineering best practices and standards.
• Work closely with Software Leads and Architects to clarify program intent, system capabilities and output requirements.

Requirements

• Both levels: a Bachelor's in a STEM field with the required experience, or a Master's or PhD with less experience, as set out below.
• Both levels: experience writing C/C++ and familiarity with modern C++ standards from C++17 onward.
• Both levels: ability to analyze system requirements to derive software design and performance requirements.
• Both levels: proven ability to design and write new software, modify existing software to add features, and debug and fix defects.
• Both levels: experience with open software or system architecture solutions.
• Both levels: strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Both levels: experience developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
• Both levels: experience with Git-based or other software configuration management tools.
• Principal (T03): Bachelor's in a STEM field with 5+ years of relative experience, Master's in a STEM field with 3+ years, or PhD plus 1 year of relative experience.
• Principal (T03): active Secret clearance and enrolled in Continuous Evaluation.
• Sr. Principal (T04): Bachelor's in a STEM field with 8+ years of relative experience, Master's in a STEM field with 6+ years, or PhD plus 4 years of relative experience.
• Sr. Principal (T04): active Top Secret clearance and enrolled in Continuous Evaluation.
• Preferred: experience leading tasks to stay on schedule and at cost while meeting specified requirements.
• Preferred: experience with modern C++ standards from C++20 onward.
• Preferred: experience with containers such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Preferred: experience with Linux operating systems.
• Preferred: experience with CUDA and GPUs.
• Preferred: experience with high-performance numerical or scientific computing and parallel computing.
• Preferred: experience developing for SWaP-constrained environments.
• Preferred: familiarity with signal-processing algorithms.
• Preferred: familiarity with Agile, including Scrum and DevSecOps.

Conditions

Work onsite full-time in Woodland Hills, CA.

Travel about 10% of the time.

Secret clearance is required at the start of the role.

The ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance and meet customer-specific security screening within management's timeframe is required at both levels.

Willingness and ability to work onsite full-time is required at both levels.

Each level requires the Top Secret clearance and customer screening noted above.

The position is contingent on successfully transferring an active DoD Secret clearance.

Principal base salary range: $114,000.00 to $171,000.00. Sr. Principal base salary range: $142,200.00 to $213,400.00. These ranges are a general guide, and the offer depends on scope, responsibilities, experience, education, skills and market conditions.
