Principal/Sr Principal Software Engineer

Description

The company is hiring several Software Engineers and Principal Software Engineers for its Global C2 Solutions group in Huntsville, Alabama, within its Defense Systems division.

You will build, integrate, test and maintain mission-critical command and control software that warfighters and customers worldwide depend on.

The work supports the Integrated Battle Command System (IBCS) program. You will sit on an Agile team focused on engagement or track management and work alongside systems and test engineers to create secure, reliable, scalable software for hard logical and mathematical problems.

The role suits engineers who like hands-on coding, difficult technical problems and close collaboration in a tightly integrated Agile setting.

Responsibilities

• Design, write, document, test and debug software that turns logical and mathematical methods into working solutions aligned with program goals.
• Join SAFe Scrum teams that build and maintain software across several IBCS software baselines.
• Handle demanding workloads and varied assignments while working with colleagues at every level of the organization.
• Develop and upgrade software in several programming languages and versions, keeping changes to the operational behavior of tactical software to a minimum.
• Create and update documentation in Markdown and other collaboration tools.
• Take part in unit, functional and static code analysis testing, including code coverage, and help make testing more effective and automated.

Requirements

• Principal level: 5 years of relevant experience with a bachelor's degree in a STEM field, 3 years with a master's degree, or 1 year with a PhD.
• Sr Principal level: 8 years of relevant experience with a bachelor's degree in a STEM field, 6 years with a master's degree, or 4 years with a PhD.
• Solid object-oriented development experience in Java and C++.
• Working proficiency in Linux development and runtime environments, plus scripting with Bash and Python.
• Experience with Git and GitLab for configuration management and source control.
• Experience with SAFe Agile and with Jira and Confluence.
• Active Secret clearance.

Conditions

Travel is required for about 10% of the time.

No relocation assistance is offered.

Based in Huntsville, Alabama.

Primary level base salary range: $108,800.00 to $163,200.00.

Secondary level base salary range: $135,800.00 to $203,600.00.

The range is a general guideline. Actual base pay depends on the scope of the role, the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Preferred, not required: experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) using Cameo or similar tools; DevSecOps and CI/CD pipeline work for building, integrating, testing and delivering software; real-time or distributed systems built on RTI/DDS publish/subscribe middleware; US Army systems including PATRIOT, LTAMDS, SENTINEL A3/A4, IFF devices and MSHORAD; engagement planning and execution, PAC2/PAC3, AIM9x and indirect fires; track management including sensors, composite tracks, IFF devices and Combat Identification; CompTIA Security+; HSVFall2026.
