Description

The company is an engineering firm with more than 3,000 specialists across North America. It works with clients in aerospace, medical devices, robotics, automotive, commercial vehicles, electric vehicles, rail and other sectors on projects ranging from space exploration and life-saving medical equipment to autonomous electric vehicles.

The company is part of a global group of over 57,000 engineers in 30 countries and supports products across the full development cycle, from advisory work to outsourcing entire projects.

You will work on hard engineering problems with mentoring and room to grow, in a team that values its people.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of assigned firmware features or components, from requirements analysis through design, build, integration, verification and fixing defects.
  • Learn the existing code, hardware interfaces, tools and system behavior on your own, and find the right people to ask, with focused questions.
  • Write maintainable embedded software in modern C++, using solid object-oriented design, clear interfaces and suitable error handling.
  • Work with systems, hardware, FPGA, software and architecture teams to clarify requirements, weigh tradeoffs and resolve issues that cross teams.
  • Use debuggers, emulators, analyzers, logs and other diagnostic methods to track down complex problems between software and hardware.
  • Write unit and integration tests, contribute to automated testing and help keep continuous integration running to protect quality and catch regressions.
  • Take part in design and code reviews, give constructive feedback and act promptly on the feedback you receive.
  • Estimate and plan work as user stories, track progress, and report status, risks, dependencies and technical blockers early and clearly.
  • Follow applicable quality processes and write clear technical documentation that supports design traceability, testing and long-term maintenance.
  • Work effectively with teams spread across the world and help improve design and architecture consistently across MR platforms.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree, or equivalent practical experience, in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science or a related field.
  • 5+ years of professional experience developing embedded or firmware software.
  • Strong C++ skills, including object-oriented design, memory management, concurrency fundamentals, debugging and writing maintainable production code.
  • Hands-on experience building software that interacts with hardware, real-time systems, device interfaces or resource-constrained embedded platforms.
  • A track record of learning new technologies and codebases on your own, breaking down unclear problems and delivering with minimal guidance.
  • Experience with embedded development and diagnostic tools such as debuggers, emulators, protocol or logic analyzers and system logs.
  • Experience with Linux development environments, Git source control, and build or container-based workflows.
  • Experience with continuous integration, automated testing and disciplined code review practices.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, including explaining technical decisions, raising risks and working across functions.
