Description

The company makes AI scheduling and workforce management software for in-home healthcare providers, helping them deliver personal care to patients in their homes.

Large providers, including Cityblock Health and U Penn Health System, use the software to raise field team utilization by 17% or more and to cut the manual work of scheduling and dispatch.

The product covers proprietary logistics algorithms for scheduling, a mobile app for field staff, an operations dashboard for office teams, patient engagement and booking tools, and integrations with external APIs.

The company has raised $14m from Y Combinator, Pear VC, and F-Prime, and its team of engineers and operators is working to change how home healthcare is delivered.

Responsibilities

  • Write, review, and ship backend code for services and APIs, spending most of your time on it and setting the quality bar through your own output.
  • Coach and grow a team of backend engineers with regular feedback and clear standards for strong work.
  • Lead hiring for backend and devops roles.
  • Make architecture calls for high-volume backend systems, covering service design, data modeling, API and SDK design, and performance, so the platform scales reliably as customers grow.
  • Run the AWS infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment automation, and push DevOps maturity forward as the team expands.
  • Own production health: monitoring, alerting, on-call, incident response, and postmortems that lead to real fixes.
  • Make sure backend systems and infrastructure meet healthcare data security standards, including HIPAA and SOC 2, from design through deployment.
  • Plan, sequence, and track delivery across parallel backend work, keep stakeholders updated, and set commitments that are realistic.
  • Partner with product, front-end engineering, and the interoperability team to turn requirements into well-scoped technical plans and keep shared systems running well.
  • Raise the standard for testing, code review, and process so the team ships fast without losing reliability.

Requirements

  • You have 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years leading a team of 4 to 8 engineers while staying hands-on.
  • You bring deep backend skills in Python/Django and/or Node.js with TypeScript, including relational database design and performance tuning in PostgreSQL or similar.
  • You have been accountable for production systems, including on-call, incident response, observability, and postmortems.
  • You have a track record of technical leadership: making architecture decisions, setting engineering standards, and building consensus on hard tradeoffs.
  • You know AWS, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code well enough to make infrastructure decisions yourself.
  • You have hired, developed, and retained strong engineers.
  • You have worked at an early or growth stage startup, building structure where none exists and making calls without a playbook.
  • You have built systems that handle HIPAA-protected data or worked in another compliance-heavy field such as SOC 2 or fintech.
  • You have hands-on experience with Terraform, Docker/Kubernetes, and Datadog or similar observability tooling.
  • You have a background in scheduling, logistics, or optimization systems.
  • You have built data pipelines or ETL into cloud data warehouses for analytics and reporting.
  • You use AI tools such as Claude Code or Cursor to speed up development and review.
  • Your stack will include Django with Python 3, Node.js with Express and TypeScript, GraphQL, PostgreSQL, AWS, Terraform, Docker and Kubernetes, Datadog, Git with GitHub and Graphite, and Claude Code and Cursor.

Conditions

You will lead a backend team of six engineers and report to the CTO.

The role is roughly 60% hands-on coding and 40% management, with code written and reviewed alongside the team.

You will make key hires in your first few months.

The company moves fast, so you should be comfortable making architecture calls quickly.

The office is the Santa Monica headquarters.
