Principal Software Engineering - Virtualization

The team is hiring for this role to fill a new position, not to replace someone in an existing opening.

The company will use artificial intelligence as part of the hiring process for this role.

This is a Staff Engineer role on the Embedded Platform team, within Software Engineering, and the title Continuous Integration Developer (Architect Level) also applies.

The team works on embedded real-time software for in-vehicle mechatronic systems and on the virtual development platform used to build and test vehicle software, with a focus on high quality, reliability and safety.

Responsibilities

• Define the architecture, standards and strategy for how the company builds, tests and deploys virtualized vehicle software.
• Grow your skills into cloud orchestration, infrastructure as code, progressive delivery and data-driven simulation.
• Architect enterprise-scale CI/CD systems for embedded, simulation and cloud workloads.
• Set branching, release and quality-gate standards across several engineering domains.
• Design GitOps delivery for multi-cluster Kubernetes environments.
• Lead the progressive delivery strategy, including automated rollback and analysis.
• Build infrastructure as code architecture using Terraform modules and multi-environment patterns.
• Build security and compliance into pipelines and artifact flows.
• Set observability standards for pipelines, simulation workloads and runtime systems.
• Coach and mentor DevOps and simulation developers across the organization.
• Lead improvements to software engineering productivity and effectiveness, identifying opportunities and driving the change.
• Lead high-impact efforts hands-on.
• Connect multiple initiatives to deliver more value.
• Work through unusual and difficult problems.
• Set the direction for innovation, learning and simplification, and move the team toward it.
• Communicate clearly, keep your technical command, and stay empathetic toward people.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in software engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 15 years of experience in software development.
• Deep understanding of software architecture for real-time systems.
• Experience shipping high-quality, safety-critical products.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with close attention to detail.
• Track record of managing several projects and priorities in a busy, quick-moving setting.
• Comfort making decisions in an environment that expects action.
• Deep Kubernetes knowledge, including cluster operations.
• Strong Terraform and infrastructure as code experience, including production-grade module design.
• Experience with embedded or simulation workflows such as vECUs, SIL, FMU and SSP.
• Cloud architecture experience on AWS, Azure or GCP.

Conditions

Hybrid role: you report to the Markham or Oshawa office at least three days per week.

Base salary range is $186,000 to $236,000. The final offer falls within this range and depends on factors relevant to the position.
