Principal Software Engineer

Description

The role is Principal Software Engineer in the company's Global Technology organisation in Warsaw, Poland, in the Technology job family and Applications Development area.

You will set the technical direction, architecture and delivery for the next-generation Risk Management Platform, working with distributed engineers, architects, product managers and quantitative analysts worldwide.

You will define technical standards and lead major architecture work while growing engineers across the company's global teams.

Responsibilities

• Design scalable, resilient, high-throughput architectures for next-generation risk systems by studying complex business workflows, enterprise systems and industry standards.
• Set and evolve engineering methods, coding standards, test automation and CI/CD practices across the full development lifecycle.
• Lead the technical integration of complex enterprise functions and platforms to speed up releases and improve operations.
• Apply deep knowledge of end-to-end data pipelines, microservices and system flows to drive technical change.
• Plan and run technical milestones for multi-million-dollar, cross-functional, multi-stream programmes.
• Work closely with business stakeholders, quantitative risk managers and operations users to turn functional specifications into sound architectures.
• Keep code quality, performance profiling, fault tolerance and security high across distributed services.
• Assign engineering workloads, set delivery milestones and coach senior developers, engineers and analysts.
• Align architecture roadmaps with senior technology and business leaders and external technology partners.
• Build a collaborative, inclusive culture across distributed teams in the Americas, EMEA and APAC.
• Assess and reduce technical, operational and regulatory risk in engineering decisions, and resolve control issues promptly.
• Ensure platforms meet governance, data privacy, regulatory and security requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, information technology or a related quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Extensive experience in software engineering and system architecture, including delivering mission-critical enterprise systems.
• Preferred: background in financial services or risk technology.
• Advanced skill in backend languages and frameworks such as Java, Python, Go or C++, plus distributed, concurrent and event-driven systems (for example Apache Kafka).
• Proven work with cloud platforms, containers (Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift), API gateways and distributed caching.
• Strong skills in relational and distributed databases, high-volume data pipelines and analytical engines.
• Clear, persuasive communication and negotiation with technical teams and senior business leaders.
• Track record of developing engineers and leading cross-functional delivery.
• Ability to break ambiguous, complex business problems into structured, elegant technical designs.

Conditions

Full-time position based in Warsaw, Poland, with a hybrid model of up to 2 days working from home per week.

Business casual workplace.

Competitive base salary, potentially, subject to final offer.

Primary location full-time salary range: 354 530,00 zł - 603 670,00 zł.

Other job-related duties may be assigned as required.
