The company builds software that connects the physical and digital worlds, helping businesses improve operations, build better products and support their people.

The Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) group is hiring a senior Principal Software Engineer to set technical direction for its next-generation ALM products, including Codebeamer and related offerings.

You will sit in the Enterprise Deployment Center (EDC) as a senior technical authority. Your work will shape product evolution, architecture, scalability and engineering practice across several teams.

You will work with Product Management, Engineering, Architecture, Customer Success and strategic customers on hard technical problems, aiming to improve performance, scalability, resilience and adoption of enterprise software.

The role suits a well-known software engineer with deep knowledge of enterprise software, cloud-native design, AI-enabled development, DevOps and large distributed systems. Success depends on technical credibility and on influencing decisions across organizational lines.

Responsibilities

  • Shape the long-term technical direction of ALM products and platforms, drawing on engineering depth and direct customer experience.
  • Help build architecture roadmaps and technology strategy that span several engineering teams.
  • Advise the organization on software engineering, architecture, scalability, performance and operational excellence.
  • Guide product evolution using a clear view of customer problems, deployment patterns and market trends.
  • Lead technical discussions and help engineering, architecture, product and customer-facing teams agree on direction.
  • Help design and evolve scalable, secure and resilient enterprise systems.
  • Lead modernization work covering cloud-native architecture, microservices, AI-enabled features, observability and platform scale.
  • Review critical architecture and technical decisions across strategic initiatives.
  • Push for solutions that meet standards for performance, reliability, compliance, maintainability and security.
  • Champion best practice in code quality, automation, testing and operations.
  • Lead investigations into complex performance, reliability, scalability and operational problems.
  • Find architectural bottlenecks and propose fixes based on technical analysis and production experience.
  • Shape platform features that improve resilience, observability, automation and developer productivity.
  • Support large enterprise deployments with expertise in distributed systems, databases, cloud infrastructure and application performance.
  • Encourage engineering practices that make systems easier to operate and sustain over time.
  • Track emerging technologies and judge how they fit the ALM portfolio.
  • Champion AI-assisted engineering, automation, analytics and modern delivery practices.
  • Run proofs of concept and technical evaluations that inform future product capabilities.
  • Work with customers, partners and industry experts to understand changing technical and business needs.
  • Drive continuous improvement and new ideas across products, platforms and engineering processes.
  • Work with Product Management to match technical priorities to business goals and customer needs.
  • Collaborate with engineering managers, architects, principal engineers and technical specialists on strategic initiatives.
  • Work with Customer Success, Support and Services to solve complex technical issues and find product improvements.
  • Join strategic customer engagements on architecture, scalability, performance and enterprise deployment.
  • Serve as a main link between engineering and strategic customers.
  • Mentor senior engineers and emerging technical leaders.
  • Spread good practice in architecture, performance engineering, DevOps and cloud-native development.
  • Build a culture of technical excellence, innovation, collaboration and ongoing learning.
  • Contribute to technical communities, forums and knowledge sharing.
  • Be a recognized technical expert within ALM and the wider engineering community.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, software engineering or a related field.
  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • A proven record of designing, building and running large enterprise software platforms.
  • Deep Java skills and strong knowledge of modern backend technologies.
  • Extensive experience with distributed systems, cloud-native architecture and microservices.
  • A strong grasp of software architecture patterns and modern engineering practice.
  • Experience shaping technical strategy and architecture decisions across several teams.
  • Demonstrated depth in performance engineering, scalability, reliability and operational excellence.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication and stakeholder management.
  • The ability to influence technical and business decisions through expertise and credibility.
  • Preferred: familiarity with ALM, DevOps, systems engineering or software delivery platforms.
  • Preferred: experience with Codebeamer, Jira, Polarion, Jama, Azure DevOps or similar tools.
  • Preferred: expertise in a public cloud platform (AWS, Azure or GCP).
  • Preferred: experience with Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD, infrastructure automation and observability platforms.
  • Preferred: knowledge of AI/ML technologies and how they apply to enterprise software.
