Principal Software Engineer - Onshape

Description

The company is building a new CAD and design data management platform, delivered worldwide as software as a service, for professional mechanical designers and engineers.

The service is run by a team of about 100 people within a larger SaaS business.

Think of it as desktop-grade design tools combined with code version control and shared document editing.

This is a hybrid Principal Software Engineer role based at the office in Boston's Seaport District.

You will build a 3D collaborative CAD application using current cloud, web and mobile technologies.

You will use full-stack skills to build UI and modeling features that help users work efficiently, scaling from simple designs to ones with thousands of components.

You will also add value to CAD workflows such as simulation, design and manufacturability analysis, and import and export.

Responsibilities

• Build and improve the user interface code and its communication with back-end services.
• Tune existing systems so they handle larger datasets well.
• Advise fellow developers on system design and implementation.
• Build back-end services that support new UI, workflow and modeling features.
• Help the product, UX and QA teams sharpen project specifications.
• Review colleagues' code regularly.
• Fix bugs across the whole system.
• Meet deadlines and report status and blockers early.
• Join regular team meetings and quick huddles.

Requirements

• Strong skill in TypeScript, Java and C++.
• Working knowledge of data structures and algorithms.
• Hands-on experience with codebases of over 1 million lines.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
• Preferred: communicate well and collaborate closely on shared projects.
• Preferred: understand usability concerns in user interfaces.
• Preferred: work independently and take initiative.
• Preferred: solve problems effectively.
• Preferred: have built a CAD application.
• Preferred: have worked in an agile environment.
• Preferred: have developed on a Mac or Linux environment.

Conditions

Hybrid role, with office attendance of 2-3 days a week at the Seaport Boston office.

You must be able to commute to that office.

Anticipated annual salary is $131,000 to $180,000, an estimate at the time of posting; actual pay depends on skills, qualifications, experience and location.
