Description

The role is a Principal or Sr. Principal Embedded Software Engineer in the Software Engineering organization in Rancho Bernardo, CA, within Aeronautics Systems Research and Advanced Design, the group that turns early concept work into mission-ready capabilities for future aircraft and collaborative autonomous platforms.

The team covers advanced concept work from early designs and rapid prototyping through demonstrations, tackling hard technical problems in survivability, autonomy, and battle management.

Relocation assistance may be available. Travel is 10% of the time. A Top Secret clearance is required to start.

Responsibilities

  • Build, integrate, and test software on real-time operating systems for flight and mission-critical systems, with a focus on hardware/software integration and modeling and simulation software.
  • Work with Systems Engineering, Real-time & Embedded Software, Guidance, Navigation & Control, DevSecOps, and Systems Test teams.
  • Take software through every phase of the lifecycle in an Agile environment: requirements, design, development, integration, and test.

  • Work in a lab on Agile projects.
  • Analyze requirements allocated to computer software configuration items (CSCIs).
  • Write clear, detailed, and concise technical documentation.
  • Help software developers and engineers find the root cause of problems seen during installation, integration, acceptance testing, and operations.
  • File detailed problem reports for errors you find.
  • Collaborate closely with system engineers, hardware designers, integration and test engineers, and program leadership across development, lab, and operational settings.
  • Coordinate across several teams and manage tasks, working with the full development lifecycle under technical, schedule, and cost constraints.

  • The level will be set by your qualifications.
  • Experience with safety-critical embedded real-time software.

  • Experience architecting, implementing, integrating, debugging, and testing safety-critical embedded real-time C/C++ software on real-time operating systems such as VxWorks, Integrity, and/or Real Time Embedded Linux.
  • Ability to obtain, transfer, and maintain a final adjudicated US government Top Secret clearance and any required program access within a reasonable time, as the company decides. Upgraded SAP/PAR will be required once the selected candidate starts, so you must also be able to obtain and keep it.
