Principal or Sr. Principal Guidance Navigation and Control (GNC) Engineer

Description

The company designs and flies air vehicles and is looking to fill a Principal or Senior Principal Guidance Navigation and Control (GNC) Engineer role on its Advanced GNC team, based in Rancho Bernardo, CA or El Segundo, CA.

The level will be set as Principal GNC Engineer or Senior Principal GNC Engineer, depending on how your qualifications match the criteria below.

Relocation assistance may be available. A Secret clearance is required to start. Travel is 25% of the time.

Responsibilities

• Build algorithms, software and simulation tools for guidance, navigation and control, and test and verify them.
• Write control laws that meet air vehicle performance, flying qualities and stability margin targets, on the ground and in flight.
• Build linear and non-linear air vehicle dynamic models and plug them into software and hardware-in-the-loop simulations.
• Develop modern control laws and run trade studies on unconventional control effectors.
• Tackle highly complex design problems and come up with inventive solutions.
• Produce analysis for design reviews at each program stage, such as PDR and CDR.
• Analyze air vehicle flight test data and support flight test work.

Requirements

• For Principal GNC Engineer: a Bachelor's in a related STEM field with 5 years of relevant experience, a Master's with 3 years, or a PhD with 1 year.
• For Senior Principal GNC Engineer: a Bachelor's in a related STEM field with 8 years of relevant experience, a Master's with 6 years, or a PhD with 4 years.
• Experience working on a team of GNC engineers.
• Proficiency and hands-on experience with Matlab, Simulink and autocoding Simulink models.
• Principal level: an active US Government Secret clearance, and the ability to obtain and keep Special Program Access (SAP).
• Senior Principal level: the ability to obtain and keep a US Government Secret clearance (or Top Secret, if the program needs it) before starting, and the ability to obtain and keep SAP.
• Preferred: an active Secret or Top Secret clearance (highly preferred), and Special Program Access.
• Preferred: experience with NGAS Common Products Core VMS GNC modelling.
• Preferred: knowledge of C/C++, Java and Python.
• Preferred: knowledge of flight sciences, control law development and control system analysis.

Conditions

This role is 100% on-site. Telework and hybrid schedules are not allowed.

Expected travel is roughly 20% to 25%.

Base pay ranges: Primary level $114,000.00 to $171,000.00; Secondary level $142,200.00 to $213,400.00. These are guidelines, and final offers depend on scope, responsibilities, experience, education, skills and market conditions.
