The company's space systems group in Chandler, Arizona is hiring a Principal EO Signal Image Processing Engineer for its Launch Vehicles business unit.
You would join the electro-optical infrared (EO/IR) modeling, algorithm and simulation group, which supports the Seeker Integrated Product Team. Working alongside senior engineers, you will help build and check models, image processing algorithms and simulation tools.
Responsibilities
Use EO/IR physics to build physics-based models of seeker hardware for high-fidelity simulations used in tactical performance assessment and flight test support.
Design and implement image and signal processing algorithms, then add them to the simulation framework.
Run trade studies and sensitivity analyses to judge performance and robustness.
Carry out modeling and algorithm work on schedule, given accelerated program timelines.
Build, maintain and improve modeling and analysis tools in C/C++, Python and MATLAB for HPC and lab use.
Work with GNC, systems, software, firmware and hardware teams to plan modeling and simulation work, flow down requirements and set verification approaches.
Support HWIL, lab and real-time testing, match simulation predictions to test and flight data, and help update models.
Present technical results to internal stakeholders, including at design and readiness reviews.
Follow process discipline and help improve modeling standards, coding practices and configuration management.
Requirements
Hold a bachelor's degree in optical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, math or a related field from an accredited university plus 5 years of related experience, or a master's degree plus 3 years, or a PhD plus 1 year.
Hold an active U.S. Government Secret security clearance at the time you apply, current and within scope.
Have experience with image and signal processing and with implementing algorithms in C, C++, MATLAB or Python.
Have experience developing and validating EO/IR models against hardware testing.
Have working knowledge of optical systems simulation, EO/IR imaging principles and radiometric transfer.
Have experience developing and running simulations on high-performance computing (HPC) environments.
Be able to work through technical problems on your own, synthesize results and present findings to stakeholders.
Preferred: MS or PhD in optical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, math or a related discipline.
Preferred: active U.S. Government Top Secret security clearance at the time you apply, current and within scope.
Preferred: experience supporting modeling and simulation for missile, hypersonic or other high reliability systems, including familiarity with the associated standards.
Preferred: previous work on DoD missile defense programs and their performance and verification frameworks.
Preferred: familiarity with hardware/software integration and modeling of physics-based or real-time systems, including HWIL environments.
Preferred: proficiency in C/C++ development and Linux, MATLAB and Python analysis and prototyping toolchains, software change and configuration management tools, and real-time programming practices.
Preferred: experience using scene generators such as MSLRAD or similar EO/IR scene generation tools.
Preferred: demonstrated experience restructuring algorithms for better HPC performance, such as vectorization, parallelization or distributed computing.
Preferred: familiarity with software and firmware development lifecycles, algorithm implementation and verification processes.
