Join the Builder Platform team, which provides a standardized, governed platform for agents, workflows, and core engineering tools that the whole company builds on.
The company is the platform's first customer. The team runs real internal work on it, measures the productivity it creates, and passes lessons into the company's products and the open-source frameworks customers can use.
This is a company-wide technical leadership role covering Agents and Workflows, AI Infrastructure, Developer Infrastructure, and Productivity Engineering. You will set multi-year technical direction, align teams on architectural boundaries and standards, and drive large cross-functional efforts from early, unclear opportunities through lasting adoption and measurable results.
Responsibilities
Define a multi-year technical vision for the Builder Platform and turn company strategy into a delivery portfolio across the four areas.
Lead the design and evolution of the Agent Platform, the shared base that teams use to deploy, run, evaluate, govern, and improve agents and agentic workflows.
Build and run AI Infrastructure, including the LLM and MCP gateways that every agent and workflow passes through, with guardrails, fallback, usage and cost controls, model rollout policies, and clear SLOs.
Put AI governance into practice with Security, Legal, and IT by turning policy into workable controls, approved patterns, and audit trails, without adding needless friction.
Design the agents and workflows that take engineering work from issue to production and business work from trigger to result, and decide which patterns become shared capabilities and which stay with their owning teams.
Own the technical strategy for Developer Infrastructure (source control and CI) and developer tools, covering repository standards, access and ownership models, reusable workflows, and CI reliability and cost.
Work with leaders in Engineering, Product, Sales, and G&A to find where AI can speed up work or improve outcomes, and rank those ideas into one company-wide portfolio.
Set standards for how the company adopts agents and agentic tooling, including best practices, paved roads, and enablement, and drive adoption through influence rather than mandates.
Set clear architectural and organizational boundaries: what is centralized, standardized as a paved road, handed to teams, bought, or deliberately not built. Make the hard tradeoffs among speed, flexibility, reliability, security, cost, and long-term maintainability.
Measure the platform on adoption, velocity, reliability, and cost, and use feedback loops to quantify the productivity it creates and guide the portfolio.
Own the customer-zero strategy: turn what the company learns into validated requirements for its cloud service, SDKs, and agent harness, run the feedback loop with product leadership, lead the open-source reference architecture for customer platform teams, and represent this strategy to customers, partners, and the wider technical community.
Grow senior technical leaders, align engineering leads and managers, and make teams more effective without relying on direct authority.
Take part in the on-call rotation while leading systemic fixes that cut operational load, address risks before they spread company-wide, and improve the internal user experience.
Requirements
Strong software engineering fundamentals and a record of setting technical direction and delivering major platform work across several engineering teams.
Hands-on experience with modern agentic coding tools such as Codex and Claude Code, including defining company-wide best practices and driving their adoption.
Proficiency in one or more languages used at the company, such as Go, TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, or Java, with deep expertise in at least one relevant domain (developer infrastructure, distributed systems, AI platforms, or platform engineering) and working knowledge of several others.
Experience building and operating internal platforms, developer infrastructure, or agent platforms that a whole company has adopted.
Sound judgment on platform boundaries (what to centralize, federate, standardize, buy, or avoid building) and on tradeoffs among speed, flexibility, reliability, security, cost, and long-term maintainability.
Proven ability to influence engineering managers, senior individual contributors, Security, Legal, IT, Product, and business stakeholders, and to turn unclear company goals into architecture, standards, roadmaps, and coordinated delivery.
Experience defining outcome metrics for developer productivity or AI systems, covering adoption, reliability, quality, cost, and cycle time, and using them to steer a portfolio.
Clear written communication, including documentation and technical strategy that let people help themselves and keep teams aligned across the company.
Experience creating governance through paved roads, not through documentation or approval processes alone.
Evidence of making other technical leaders and teams more effective through mentoring, clear architecture, and building consensus.
