Principal Engineer, Software Defined Networking

Description

The company builds AI cloud infrastructure for GPU workloads, including multi-node training, inference, cloud gaming and cloud functions. This Principal System Software Engineer role covers Software Defined Networking across the whole stack, from new control and data plane code to production reliability, CI/CD, monitoring and incident response.

Responsibilities

• Build the next generation of multi-tenant cloud SDN control and data plane software using OVS, OVN and OpenFlow.
• Create virtual network orchestration and services on gRPC and REST for BMaaS, VMaaS and Kubernetes, keeping tenant security and performance SLAs in view.
• Contribute upstream to OVN-Kubernetes and related open-source projects.
• Develop network observability software covering monitoring, telemetry, metering and performance analysis.
• Run and support OVS-OVN SDN solutions in large AI cloud environments.
• Own end-to-end observability for the SDN stack: monitoring, alerting, distributed tracing and dashboards that show network health, performance and tenant SLAs in real time.
• Design, improve and maintain GitLab CI/CD pipelines across Linux host networking, OVS, OVN and Kubernetes CNIs.
• Apply GitOps practices so the SDN stack integrates securely and smoothly with cloud infrastructure.
• Work with SRE, DevOps and network engineering teams on production readiness and operational tooling.

Requirements

• A BS or MS in computer science or a related technical field, or an equivalent mix of education and relevant experience.
• 15+ years of proven experience building software for large-scale distributed systems.
• Expert knowledge of OVN, OVS, OpenFlow and modern network protocols.
• Strong C and Go programming, with advanced Bash and Python scripting.
• Deep Kubernetes knowledge and hands-on experience deploying and supporting CNIs, including OVN-Kubernetes.
• Hands-on use of infrastructure-as-code and deployment tools: Ansible, Terraform, ArgoCD and Flux.
• Experience designing and operating complex, multi-stage CI/CD pipelines.
• Hands-on experience building secure, high-performance gRPC and REST services with TLS and strong authentication.
• Strong knowledge of datacenter routing, switching, and Linux host and VM networking.
• Stand out: contributions to open-source projects, especially OVS, OVN, OVN-Kubernetes or other Kubernetes networking projects.
• Stand out: hardware acceleration for networking using GPU, DPU or equivalent experience.
• Stand out: practical experience with AWS, Azure, GCP and hybrid or multi-cloud deployments.
• Stand out: top-level SRE or DevOps expertise, including on-call, incident management, service reliability targets and production ownership.
• Stand out: experience with observability platforms and tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Jaeger, OpenTelemetry and ELK.
