Description

The role is about designing, building and improving software with a range of engineering methods, delivering business, platform and technology capabilities for customers and colleagues.

The company runs a 10 week summer internship in Glasgow where you work on live projects, gain hands-on experience and get full support throughout.

Students in their penultimate year can join the one year expert programme, a fast-track scheme with job-specific training from day one to build specialist technical skills.

As a developer you help design, build, test and maintain systems used across the company and help solve complex problems for clients and customers. You may work with Java, C++, C, Python, SQL, JavaScript/TypeScript, containers, DevOps, cloud, machine learning, scripting and real-time systems.

Responsibilities

• Build high-quality software with industry-standard languages, frameworks and tools, keeping code scalable, maintainable and fast.
• Work with product managers, designers and other engineers to define requirements, plan solutions and make sure your work fits business goals.
• Take part in code reviews, share knowledge with peers and help build a strong focus on code quality.
• Follow secure coding practices to reduce vulnerabilities and protect sensitive data.
• Write unit tests that show code is well designed, readable and reliable.
• Deliver work on time and to a high standard, and keep looking for ways to improve.
• Apply deep technical knowledge and a clear grasp of core principles in your area, and advise others where it helps.
• Make judgements from factual analysis, solve problems using your experience and existing precedent, and escalate policy breaches appropriately.
• Own the risk in your work, strengthen controls, and follow relevant rules, regulations and codes of conduct.
• Explain complex or sensitive information clearly and act as a contact for stakeholders outside your immediate function.
• Embed new policies and procedures adopted to reduce risk.
• If the role carries leadership duties, guide and develop your team, allocate work, coordinate resources and show the LEAD behaviours: listen and be authentic, energise and inspire, align across the enterprise, and develop others.

Requirements

• You are in your penultimate year of university and will graduate in 2028.
• You have a genuine interest in technology, strong problem-solving skills and the drive to deliver innovative solutions.

Conditions

Your location is the Glasgow site named in the job title, and a return offer to the graduate programme keeps the same location as your internship.

The internship is full-time from June to August 2027.

The new Glasgow campus is designed for collaboration and hybrid working.

The company accepts applications from candidates who need visa sponsorship to work in the UK and will provide a skilled worker visa to successful applicants who meet the Home Office criteria. Applicants who cannot get a skilled worker visa must already hold the legal right to work in the UK full-time from June to August 2027.
