Description

The role is Lead Engineer, Prime Brokerage Technology Vice President, and it centres on engineering quality, test automation and technical leadership across a software and team transformation.

Prime Brokerage Technology builds the systems behind the operations of the company's clients and traders, and forms the technical base of its Prime Finance business. The company sees this area as a major growth priority, with technology as the key to that growth.

Prime Finance serves institutional clients such as hedge funds in a highly competitive market, offering Prime Brokerage services backed by financing and stock borrow capabilities.

The platforms must process transactions, payments and reporting accurately and reliably every day. The team is partway through replacing legacy components with cloud-native microservices built for stability, scalability and fast releases, and you would help lead that change in both the code and the teams writing it.

Responsibilities

  • Build and own cash and fixed-income data processing components in Java or Kotlin on the Prime Brokerage Technology platform
  • Make developer-written automated tests a core part of how the team engineers software
  • Work in an Agile team that puts heavy emphasis on continuous integration and continuous deployment
  • Take an active part in design, planning and estimation discussions
  • Work with several management teams to integrate functions, and identify system changes needed for new products and better processes
  • Solve high-impact problems by closely examining complex business processes, system architecture and industry standards
  • Serve as the subject-matter expert on applications programming, making sure designs fit the overall architecture blueprint
  • Use your deep understanding of system flow to set standards for coding, testing, debugging and implementation
  • Understand how architecture, infrastructure and other business functions connect to reach wider business goals
  • Carry out detailed analysis to pin down issues and devise original solutions
  • Lead technically by advising and coaching mid-level developers and analysts

Requirements

  • 6 to 10 years of experience in applications development or systems analysis
  • Proven record of delivering software through an iterative Agile approach
  • Track record of quality-focused engineering covering developer-written automated testing, CI/CD, microservices, containerised deployment and cloud engineering
  • Demonstrated success in owning delivery and driving it to completion for business stakeholders
  • Comfortable working directly with product owners to clarify requirements and explore solutions
  • Able to manage several projects at once
  • Experience leading as a first among peers, guiding a team through collaboration rather than direct authority
  • Open, collaborative communication style
  • Real satisfaction in delivering solutions that make users happy
  • Hands-on experience with Agile and DevOps practices, including continuous integration, test automation, frequent releases and containerisation
  • Hands-on JVM development in Kotlin, Java or Scala
  • Sound understanding of event-based and HTTP/REST-based architectures
  • Working knowledge of relational databases and SQL
  • Prior knowledge of Prime Brokerage is desirable but not essential
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, OpenShift, Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a strong plus
  • A degree in a technical or quantitative field such as computer science or mathematics is preferred
  • You take personal ownership of how timely and high quality your delivery is
  • You communicate and work well with business users and other technology teams
  • You drive continuous improvement, regularly refining processes and practices for yourself and the team
  • You are comfortable giving and receiving honest, open feedback
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed
