Principal Engineer, Structures

Description

The company designs structures in-house for a wide range of projects, including bridges and viaducts, earth retaining structures, underground structures, culverts and building structures. The team takes work through assessment, concept, feasibility, preliminary and detailed design.

The group has delivered bridge design for many years in the USA, Australia, Canada and the Middle East, and often works on major transportation projects. The team is busy, growing and multicultural. The role also suits a CAD technician who wants to move into structural drafting and advance their career.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical side of projects, supporting project managers and technical staff to meet scope, budget, timeframe and quality targets.
• Review designs and drawings to confirm the scheme design carries correctly into detailed design, and detailed design carries correctly into drawings.
• Keep projects within the client's budget and schedule.
• Coordinate and allocate people across structural teams.
• Handle client communication on schedules, meetings and issues, and manage their expectations.
• Spot likely schedule or priority slips early and set out alternative actions.
• Apply broad engineering knowledge across assignments and related fields.
• Make technical decisions independently and bring innovation to reach high technical standards.
• Run technical quality reviews and act as Lead Verifier, confirming the approach meets the client's scope and expectations.
• Work with other disciplines so designs are fully coordinated with no gaps, including support for construction supervision teams.

Requirements

• Hold a qualification as a structural engineer, with at least a Master's degree.
• Have at least 15 years of experience since qualifying.
• Build trusted client relationships that can lead to new work.
• Bring strong presentation and sales skills, with a record of persuading clients and closing major project deals.
• Collaborate well with colleagues inside and outside the company.
• Have a working knowledge of Revit, STAAD.Pro and other software.
• Experience on projects outside Romania, in the US, Canada, Europe or Australia, is an advantage.
