Principal EDA Engineer

Description

You will lead technical work on the global compute and design-data environment that engineering teams rely on, combining hands-on CAD engineering with ownership of compute infrastructure, Perforce/IPLM design data management, project and workspace methods, automation, documentation, training and support.

You will work with engineering, CAD and infrastructure teams to build scalable ways to manage semiconductor design environments and design data across distributed teams around the world.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical decisions on engineering compute infrastructure and CAD environments.
• Help build and evolve Linux-based engineering environments that behave consistently across sites.
• Set requirements for compute, storage and related engineering infrastructure, working with IT/IS and engineering teams so it meets semiconductor design needs.
• Lead the migration and consolidation of legacy engineering environments, and troubleshoot complex infrastructure and environment problems.
• Own Perforce Helix and IPLM design-data methods, and connect Perforce/IPLM with EDA tools and engineering environments.
• Create methods for IP creation, versioning, release, reuse and lifecycle management covering both analog and digital design data.
• Define data-management best practices and help projects adopt them.
• Build standard project and workspace setups, including project configuration, EDA tool configuration, environment variables and Cadence setup, while allowing project-specific settings.
• Create reusable methods for project creation and onboarding.
• Write and maintain Python and shell utilities that automate environment and data-management workflows, reducing manual setup and administration and improving reliability and scalability.
• Develop methods for moving engineering data off legacy systems, and help teams move projects, design data and methods onto Perforce/IPLM platforms while keeping legacy environments supported during the transition.
• Write and maintain technical documentation, user guides and best practices, and capture specialist knowledge in repeatable processes.
• Create and deliver training for compute and design-data environments, support onboarding of projects and teams, and handle expert escalations on complex CAD and data issues.
• Shape the roadmap for compute and design-data infrastructure, evaluate new technologies, and define ownership boundaries with CAD, engineering and IS groups.
• Move engineering environments toward standardized, scalable and globally supportable solutions.

Requirements

• Significant experience in EDA/CAD engineering, semiconductor design infrastructure or engineering compute environments.
• Strong Linux or Unix skills.
• Strong grasp of engineering compute, storage and data-management environments.
• Experience with Perforce Helix (P4) or comparable enterprise version-control or data-management tools.
• Experience with Methodics IPLM or equivalent IP lifecycle-management tools.
• Experience with semiconductor EDA workflows.
• Strong Python and/or shell scripting.
• Experience supporting complex engineering project environments.
• Excellent troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
• Ability to work well across engineering and IT/infrastructure teams.
• Strong documentation and technical communication.
• Highly Desirable: Perforce administration and architecture experience.
• Highly Desirable: Cadence/Virtuoso knowledge.
• Highly Desirable: Understanding of analog and digital semiconductor development flows.
• Highly Desirable: Experience migrating from DesignSync/Synchronicity, Cliosoft/SOS or other legacy data-management platforms.
• Highly Desirable: Experience with large-scale Linux compute environments.
• Highly Desirable: Experience developing CAD methodology and engineering automation.
• Highly Desirable: Experience delivering technical training to engineering teams.
