Description

The group that runs biotherapeutic and genetic medicine discovery sits inside the company's Discovery Research unit and works across monoclonal antibodies, multispecifics, proteins, conjugates, AAV, LNPs and siRNA.

You will shape the cloud-based data foundation behind predictive and generative AI/ML tools used in scientists' discovery work. The platform will bring together lab data from dozens of assays, support model building and deployment, and make scientific data easier to use across the company.

This senior individual contributor role reports to the group's AI/ML head and acts as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, with possible future people management. You will work closely with wet lab scientists, ML, software and data engineers, automation teams and governance partners.

Responsibilities

  • Set the architecture for a scalable, cloud-native data platform that carries the company's AI/ML plans for this group.
  • Create data models and integration patterns that link datasets from several lab groups, and set up certified datasets for science, operations and machine learning.
  • Work with wet lab scientists and automation engineers to get more value from data generated by automated lab workflows.
  • Make sure pipelines serve both model development and production, working with data scientists and deployment engineers.
  • Push FAIR principles and data stewardship forward in line with the group's strategic priorities.
  • Promote connected data, data as a product and cloud-first design across the organization.
  • Work with data infrastructure and governance specialists so data policies are applied effectively.
  • Align the group's data work with wider company efforts including Convergence and ARCH.
  • Report platform impact through user stories, metrics and KPIs that show its value to the therapeutic pipeline.

Requirements

  • Either an MS with 14+ years or a PhD with 8+ years in machine learning, computer science, applied mathematics, data science, computational biology or a closely related field.
  • At least 6 years of data architecture work after graduate study, including a record of designing enterprise data platforms.
  • A graduate degree in computer science, data science, computational biology, computational chemistry, computational biophysics or a related area.
  • Hands-on production programming in SQL, Python or Java.
  • Experience building cloud data infrastructure on AWS, Azure or GCP.
  • Strong skills in data modeling, integration, storage, pipelines and AI/ML integration.
  • Ability to work across wet lab and dry lab science.
  • Experience working across functions and getting stakeholders aligned.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to apply data governance principles in everyday decisions.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
  • Preferred: experience leading cross-functional technical teams across reporting lines and raising their impact through best practices.
  • Preferred: experience in large, cross-functional R&D settings.
