Description

The team is hiring data engineers who enjoy combining data work with emerging technologies and solving complex business problems.

The role is central to a major transformation across the company, which works in an iterative, collaborative and inclusive delivery environment.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Agile teams to design, build, test, release and maintain technical solutions across full-stack tools.
  • Build and design data pipelines and platforms that scale, stay resilient and run efficiently as data volume and business demands grow.
  • Lead and guide developers, data analysts and data scientists who have deep experience in machine learning, distributed microservices, lakehouse architecture and full-stack systems.
  • Write code in Python and Spark, work with open-source relational and NoSQL databases, and use cloud data warehouses such as Databricks and Snowflake.
  • Design and deliver high-quality cloud data solutions and applications on your own, with little or no day-to-day direction from managers.
  • Set and enforce common data engineering design patterns that keep code high quality, easy to maintain and reusable across platforms and pipelines.
  • Work with product managers and software engineers to build cloud-first data solutions that help millions of Americans improve their financial situation.
  • Implement data security standards, including encryption at rest and in transit and fine-grained access control, in line with data privacy rules.
  • Explain technical concepts and data results clearly to internal and external stakeholders so everyone works from the same understanding.
  • Track new developments in data, try and learn new tools, take part in internal and external technology communities, and mentor other members of the data community.

Requirements

  • Hold a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a quantitative discipline such as statistics, economics, operations research, analytics, mathematics or engineering.
  • Have at least 4 years of application development experience. Internship time does not count.
  • Have at least 2 years working with distributed data.
  • Have at least 2 years of hands-on SQL experience.
  • Have at least 2 years using one of Python, Java or Scala.
  • Have at least 2 years designing and developing data pipelines.
  • Have at least 1 year of data modeling and designing end-to-end solutions across relational and non-relational databases.
  • Preferred: 7+ years of application development with proven skill in Python, SQL, Scala or Java.
  • Preferred: 4+ years designing, deploying and running data workloads in at least one public cloud, such as AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud.
  • Preferred: 4+ years building or supporting distributed data or compute workloads with tools such as EMR, Spark, Glue or Databricks.
  • Preferred: 4+ years designing, implementing and operating real-time or streaming data pipelines.
  • Preferred: 2+ years working with data observability tools such as Monte Carlo or Splunk, or orchestration tools such as Airflow or Dagster.
  • Preferred: 4+ years working with unstructured or semistructured data in NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, Cassandra or DynamoDB.
  • Preferred: 4+ years designing and supporting data warehousing solutions such as Snowflake or Redshift.
  • Preferred: 2+ years working in an Agile development environment.
  • Preferred: 2+ years developing user-centric reusable data products.
