Senior Data Platform Engineer

Description

The company is a global multi-manager hedge fund that aims for strong risk-adjusted returns. It works with internal and external portfolio manager teams worldwide and runs four strategies: Quant, Tactical, Fundamental Equity, and Discretionary Macro & Fixed Income.

The company builds its own technology, infrastructure, and risk analytics, and the team you join will build and grow enterprise data services around SingleStore Helios and PostgreSQL. The role blends database architecture, production engineering, pipeline work, data curation, migrations, self-service tooling, and cost control. You will work with teams in several regions to deliver reliable data services with clear governance.

Responsibilities

• Design and tune SingleStore and PostgreSQL schemas, SQL, physical data models, indexes, and workload performance.
• Build and run dependable batch, streaming, and CDC pipelines that bring data from relational databases, object storage, and other enterprise sources into SingleStore, including validation, transformation, enrichment, and curation.
• Lead technical reviews and migrations of existing applications and data workloads to SingleStore, and bring new teams, applications, and services onto the platform.
• Create reusable self-service onboarding tools, such as APIs, configuration templates, automated provisioning, access requests, pipeline deployment, and operational guardrails.
• Reduce cloud database spend through right-sizing, consolidation, scheduling, and tuning, and build clear SingleStore cost allocation and showback by cluster, application, and team.
• Own production readiness and reliability, covering monitoring, incident triage, root-cause analysis, recovery planning, deployment controls, and work with SingleStore Helios support.
• Build data quality, lineage, ownership, and access controls into delivery workflows, and work with the enterprise data catalog and governance teams.
• Set engineering standards, build CI/CD pipelines and automated tests, write documentation, and hand work off across regions in ways that cut manual operations.

Requirements

• 7+ years of practical work in data platform engineering, database engineering, or closely related production data roles.
• Advanced SQL and PostgreSQL skills, including query plans, schema design, performance tuning, and troubleshooting live systems.
• Strong Python and real experience building production ingestion and transformation pipelines with testing and observability.
• Experience with distributed or cloud-managed databases and modern integration patterns, including batch and CDC, plus familiarity with cloud object storage used for ingestion and staging.
• Ability to own a technical project from start to finish, work closely with application teams, and resolve complex production issues on your own.
• Nice to have: hands-on SingleStore (MemSQL) or SingleStore Helios work, including pipelines, performance tuning, and workload design.
• Nice to have: experience with Kafka or similar streaming platforms, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, and API-driven platform automation.
• Nice to have: experience building self-service data platforms, data quality frameworks, metadata or catalog integrations, and chargeback or showback reporting.
• Nice to have: experience with cloud FinOps, database migrations, or financial-services enterprise data.

Conditions

Base pay is expected to be between $180,000 and $250,000. This range reflects information available when the post was written.

Actual pay will depend on factors such as skills, qualifications, and experience.
