Description

The company is a healthcare business working across Innovative Medicine and MedTech, with patients' insights shaping its science.

The Data Science Analytics & Insights group builds data solutions across several disease areas and is hiring a postdoctoral scholar for drug target identification and evaluation, supporting the Immunology therapeutic area within Innovative Medicine.

The role analyses large clinical, genetic, omics and cell phenotype datasets to move the drug discovery pipeline forward in R&D. The team is looking for someone highly motivated and self-directed.

The primary location is Spring House, PA.

The company wants the strongest scientists available to develop safe and effective therapies for patients worldwide.

Responsibilities

  • Build an analytic framework that combines perturbation, ontology and cellular phenotyping data with molecular datasets such as genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics, to sharpen target evaluation and patient stratification.
  • Apply network-based models, machine learning and new algorithmic methods to link molecular targets with disease states and traits, connect targets to disease pathways, and test predicted mechanisms, including systematic on- and off-target toxicity predictions.
  • Bring scientific technical expertise to modelling multimodal data, including genetic, transcriptomic, proteomic and functional data, to predict target pathway activity and synergistic effects.
  • Use a broad range of statistical and AI/ML methods, building or adapting them, to analyse phenomic, multiomic and biobank data. Identify targets linked to therapeutic response in clinical or molecular groups, and find biomarkers for immune-mediated diseases.
  • Advise Immunology colleagues on study design and analysis, and help connect people across the organisation.
  • Turn computational findings into inputs for functional, biological and pharmacological validation.

Requirements

  • A PhD in a quantitative field with a strong biological basis, such as bioinformatics, computational biology, systems biology, statistical genetics or a related area.
  • A completed PhD programme.
  • Experience with multi-omic data (RNA expression, proteomics, epigenomics, genetics) at bulk and single-cell levels.
  • Working knowledge of databases and analytical methods for gene and pathway ontology, such as network analysis.
  • Strong programming and computational skills, and a record of working with a group of scientists to meet goals on set timelines.
  • Independent and self-motivated, with an innovative streak, and able to thrive in a goal-driven, multifaceted and fast-moving team.
  • Excellent communication, organisation and leadership skills, with a track record of publications and collaboration with cross-functional scientific teams.
  • Nice to have: experience with Immunology projects.
  • Nice to have: expertise in perturbation data and its analysis.
  • Nice to have: experience with advanced analytical methods (NLP, ML/AI, LLMs) for extracting cell state, function and localisation annotations from unstructured data.
  • Nice to have: experience with predictive models for target engagement and druggability.
  • Nice to have: experience with drug discovery and development practices and project support in a large pharmaceutical setting.

Conditions

Equal opportunity: the company treats each employee as an individual and respects diversity and dignity.

The anticipated base pay range is $79,000.00 to $127,650.00.

Accommodation requests for the interview process can be made through the company's employee health support channels.

Benefits

  • Eligible for the company's consolidated retirement (pension) plan and savings (401(k)) plan, subject to plan terms.
  • Vacation: 120 hours per calendar year.
  • Sick time: 40 hours per calendar year; 48 hours for employees living in Colorado; 56 hours for employees living in Washington.
  • Holiday pay, including floating holidays: 13 days per calendar year.
  • Work, personal and family time: up to 40 hours per calendar year.
  • Parental leave: 480 hours within one year of the birth, adoption or foster placement of a child.
  • Bereavement leave: 240 hours for an immediate family member and 40 hours for an extended family member per calendar year.
  • Caregiver leave: 80 hours in a 52-week rolling period, plus 10 days.
  • Volunteer leave: 32 hours per calendar year.
  • Military spouse time off: 80 hours per calendar year.
