Description

The company is a US drone maker and a leader in autonomous flight, a capability it sees as central to the future of drones and aerial mobility.

Its customers range from utility inspectors and first responders to soldiers in battlefield settings, and others.

The core of the product is the computer vision software that lets drones perceive their surroundings. The computer vision team includes researchers with track records in academia and industry.

This is a PhD research internship. You will work alongside one or more core software developers and own a project that significantly extends the team's products and capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build the algorithms that run on every drone the company powers.
  • Build fast research and development cycles for intelligent systems with autonomy beyond what exists today.
  • Research and prototype new approaches, and judge whether they are feasible.
  • Create and ship new features that give users capabilities they would not otherwise have.
  • Measure and characterize the performance of key components across the software and hardware stack.

Requirements

  • Strong proficiency in C++, Python, or both.
  • Demonstrated interest in at least one of: computer vision, deep learning, motion planning, dynamics and controls, 3D graphics, embedded software or firmware, distributed systems, tools and infrastructure, or mobile.
  • A solid foundation in math, theory, and software engineering, plus relevant research experience.
  • Software engineering skills and a commitment to clean, well-structured code.
  • Ability to work well in a fast-moving, collaborative, small team.

Conditions

The hourly rate is $47 for undergraduate students, $53 for master's students, and $70 for PhD students.

Pay depends on skill level, proficiencies, transferable knowledge, and experience, and for some roles on the regional location.

The company welcomes applicants from all backgrounds and works to build an inclusive culture.

Benefits

  • Full-time employees may enroll in the company's benefit plans and access a range of incentives and stipends, in addition to base pay.
