Mobile Engineer 4 (iOS)

Description

The team builds mobile commerce and digital payments features for a large customer base, with over 100M customers managing their money through the products every day.

This is a senior iOS role focused on technical leadership: setting direction for mobile architecture, mentoring engineers, and taking real ownership of high-impact products.

The work uses modern Swift tooling (SwiftUI and Xcode), agentic AI workflows, and digital wallet integrations.

The team works in an iterative, collaborative way with software engineers, designers, and product managers.

Responsibilities

• Work with engineers, designers, and product managers to ship high-quality features for 100M+ customers that are clear, useful, and simple to use.
• Set technical direction for mobile architecture and design patterns so your work multiplies across the team.
• Coach other engineers through regular feedback, code reviews, and sharing iOS best practices, and help remove technical blockers.
• Build deep expertise in key platform areas such as performance, accessibility, and architecture, and share it with others.
• Shape architecture decisions, review API designs, and develop reusable components.
• Lead the design and build of client Backend-for-Frontends (BFFs) and Server-Driven UI (SDUI) architectures that scale and adapt to product needs.
• Define and refine engineering practices for feature flags and staged rollouts to improve how products ship and their quality.
• Promote the use of agentic AI tools and help engineers adopt AI-native development methods to speed up the team.
• Use your command of the modern mobile platform, including advanced UI patterns and platform-specific capabilities, to make hands-on contributions where they matter most.
• Build a culture that cares about quality, performance, accessibility, and the customer, and set high standards for coding, testing, and user experience.

Requirements

• Basic: a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a related quantitative field such as statistics, economics, operations research, analytics, mathematics, or engineering.
• Basic: at least 4 years of professional software engineering experience. Internships do not count.
• Basic: at least 3 years of experience building native mobile apps for Android (Kotlin) or iOS (Swift).
• Preferred: 4+ years of experience building native mobile apps for Android (Kotlin) or iOS (Swift).
• Preferred: hands-on experience with modern native UI frameworks such as SwiftUI or Jetpack Compose.
• Preferred: experience designing and building automated mobile test suites with tools such as Swift Testing, XCUITest, JUnit, or Espresso.
• Preferred: proven record of performance tuning on native mobile platforms.
• Preferred: experience designing scalable mobile architectures and reusable component libraries.
• Preferred: experience implementing and maintaining thorough automated testing.
• Preferred: experience with modular architecture and modern state management patterns.
• Preferred: experience designing and building client BFFs that combine data for mobile clients, using technologies such as GraphQL and efficient protocols like gRPC/Protobuf.
• Preferred: experience with Server-Driven UI (SDUI) architectures.
• Preferred: experience with metrics-driven staged rollouts and feature flag strategies.
• Preferred: expertise with agentic AI coding tools and AI-assisted workflows.
• Preferred: familiarity with on-device ML frameworks such as CoreML or TensorFlow Lite.

Conditions

Full-time annual base salary range for McLean, VA is $197,300 to $225,100 for Mobile Engineer 4. Pay in other locations follows that location's range, and the exact salary is stated in the offer letter. Part-time pay is prorated by agreed hours.

The role is eligible for performance-based incentive pay, which may include cash bonuses and or long-term incentives, and may be discretionary or non-discretionary depending on the plan.
