Mission Operations Development Engineer - Level 3/4 - Chantilly

The company's Space Sector is hiring a Mission Operations Development Engineer for a geographically distributed operations team that prepares for and runs high-tempo spacecraft activities, including launch and early orbit, specialized tests, and long-term sustainment.

The position is open at Level 3 or Level 4.

Responsibilities

• Provide mission operations support for classified satellite programs.
• Work with systems engineers to integrate and test operational scripts for every phase, from early operations through sustainment.
• Run simulator tests and resolve the discrepancies they expose.
• Build and test command procedures, telemetry pages and other products based on vendor documentation.
• Help prepare and run campaign activities, including rehearsals, mission execution and post-launch tests.
• Lead a cross-functional, geographically spread operations team during real-time missions.
• Lead troubleshooting of satellite, ground and C2 software problems during operations.
• Manage configuration control for the space vehicle's hardware, software and configurable item parameters.
• Update operating procedures with lessons from in-flight performance, including adding automation.
• Present to internal and external customers, using PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
• Work in Agile processes using the Atlassian Suite (Jira, Confluence), Bitbucket and Mattermost.

Requirements

• Level 3: a bachelor's degree in a STEM field plus 5 years of professional experience, or a master's plus 3 years, or a PhD plus 1 year. An additional 4+ years of experience may be considered in place of a degree.
• Level 3: an active Top-Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance at the time you apply.
• Level 3: scripting experience in Python, STOL or another coding language.
• Level 3: experience operating on-orbit satellites.
• Level 3: ability to make decisions under high pressure and stay calm in stressful moments.
• Level 3: strong spoken and written communication, including persuasive presentations to external customers at milestone reviews.
• Level 4: a bachelor's degree in a STEM field plus 8 years of professional experience, or a master's plus 6 years, or a PhD plus 4 years. An additional 4+ years of experience may be considered in place of a degree.
• Level 4: an active Top-Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance at the time you apply.
• Level 4: scripting experience in Python, STOL or another coding language.
• Level 4: experience operating on-orbit satellites.
• Level 4: ability to make decisions under high pressure and stay calm in stressful moments.
• Level 4: strong spoken and written communication, including persuasive presentations to external customers at milestone reviews.
• Preferred: support for mission simulation, scripting and verification activities.
• Preferred: proficiency in one or more of MATLAB, Python, Simulink, Fortran, Java, C/C++.
• Preferred: experience with rendezvous and proximity operations (RPO) or formation flight.
• Preferred: ability to work in a group of people with varied backgrounds toward mission success.
• Preferred: experience with spacecraft launch campaigns or sustainment operations.
• Preferred: experience automating scripted spacecraft or ground operations processes.
• Preferred: experience working on government systems or in government process environments.
• Preferred: familiarity with Linux.

Conditions

Full-time, on-site work in Chantilly.

About 50% of the time on day-shift script testing, and up to 50% on shift work including nights, weekends and holidays.

Travel about 10% of the time.

An active Top-Secret/SCI clearance is required before you start.

Primary level salary range: $114,000.00 - $171,000.00. Secondary level salary range: $142,200.00 - $213,400.00. These are general guidelines; the final offer depends on scope, responsibilities, experience, education, skills and market conditions.
