Description

Millennium Space Systems is part of a larger aerospace group and builds affordable, high-performance space systems for demanding customers.

You will join a close team working on hard technical problems in an open setting, where ideas move freely across disciplines and advancement is earned through strong work.

This role sits on the mission analysis engineering team, where you will be the responsible engineering authority for all modeling, simulation and analysis on a program, study or proposal.

You will work closely with technical and program leads to deliver high-quality work on schedule and to make sure the proposed solution fits what the customer needs.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the responsible engineering authority for all modeling, simulation and analysis on a program, study or proposal.
  • Develop methods to simulate mission scenarios and assess end-to-end constellation capability.
  • Build and maintain simulations of large satellite constellations to test them against mission requirements.
  • Own the electro-optical and infrared image processing chain, from photon capture through to the warfighter.
  • Design and implement image processing, inertial tracking, state estimation and optimal control algorithms for sensor systems.
  • Create models of space vehicle payloads for system trades and performance predictions.
  • Develop new algorithms, models and data processing methods for EO/IR sensing and tracking.
  • Lead concepts of operation and design reference mission work, including its modeling and simulation.
  • Provide tools and modeling platforms to validate system performance during on-orbit operations.
  • Work with software and firmware teams to build simulation platforms, such as software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop setups.
  • Manage program activities alongside engineering work so deliverables arrive on time and meet quality standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 5 or more years of related work experience, or an equivalent mix of technical education and experience.
  • 2 or more years modeling and simulating complex satellite systems with tools such as Matlab/Simulink, Python or C++.
  • You must be a U.S. citizen who is eligible for a U.S. security clearance, and you must be willing to apply for and maintain that clearance.
  • You must hold, or be able to obtain, an interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret clearance after starting.
  • Export control compliance requires that you be a U.S. Person as defined in 22 C.F.R. §120.62, which includes U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, lawful permanent residents, refugees and asylees.
  • You must satisfy the company's conflict of interest assessment process.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree and 9 or more years of related work experience, or an equivalent mix of technical education and experience (Level 4).
  • Preferred: 5 or more years of experience in satellite design and/or operation.
  • Preferred: experience with EO/IR optical systems and image processing algorithms.
  • Preferred: experience in orbital mechanics and kinematic state estimation.
  • Preferred: experience with government-furnished image models such as ASSET, PRA Toolkit or AFSIM.
  • Preferred: proficiency with hardware development languages such as VHDL, Verilog or Vitis Model Composer.
  • Preferred: experience with satellite space-to-space communication networks.
  • Preferred: technical leadership, including requirements verification and validation, delegating technical tasks, responsible engineering authority work and cost account management.
  • Preferred: an active TS/SCI clearance.
