Manager, Software Engineering - Embedded System Architecture - ANI

Description

The role leads software architecture for embedded Qt-based applications at the company's inspection technologies division, which uses nondestructive testing, remote visual inspection and analytical instruments on critical assets.

This is a management position leading a cross-functional group of software engineers in an agile setting.

Responsibilities

• You will own the end-to-end software architecture for embedded Qt-based applications.
• You will create and maintain system designs, APIs, interface specifications and design documentation.
• You will build scalable, modular frameworks for complex embedded systems.
• You will promote modern design patterns, testability, maintainability and performance optimization.
• You will lead the team through technical guidance, code reviews and architectural oversight.
• You will set the technical strategy, weigh design trade-offs and keep work aligned with long-term product goals.
• You will encourage high quality standards, structured problem solving and continuous improvement.
• You will lead the integration of software and hardware into embedded Linux, using Yocto, Buildroot or a custom Linux.
• You will design and integrate hardware abstraction layers, backend engines and system services.
• You will keep the system robust, resource-efficient and reliable in communication between components.
• You will set and enforce testing across unit, integration, UI and automated validation.
• You will support CI/CD pipelines, build automation and OTA update systems.

Requirements

• You have 10+ years of professional experience, including 5+ years managing a team of software engineers, covering hiring, performance management and resource allocation.
• You have 7+ years of experience in C++, Qt/QML and full-stack embedded application development.
• You have a strong background in embedded Linux development.
• You have 3+ years of technical management of software projects, from initial design to final deployment.
• You have experience setting priorities and directing engineers in an agile environment.
• You can conceive, design and build system architecture that stays maintainable.
• You bring strong leadership, communication and decision-making skills, and can influence and raise team performance.
• You can coach, develop and motivate engineers at every career stage and give constructive feedback that supports their growth.
• You can build working relationships across technical and non-technical functions and tie engineering work to business goals.
• You are comfortable leading initiatives in fast-paced agile settings.
• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field is preferred.

Conditions

The role is onsite in Waltham, MA.

Base pay is $170,000 to $200,000 per year, depending on experience, plus a 12.5% annual bonus target.

Actual pay may depend on training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location, and the range may change.
