Description

The company's Digital Intelligence solutions combine several constituent systems, and this role sets the standards for how their releases and configurations are managed.

You will define, maintain and improve the processes, controls and technical baselines covering software, specifications, interfaces, requirements and deployment artifacts across those systems.

You work largely on your own and lead by influence, partnering with Product Management, Program Management, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Quality, Cybersecurity, DevOps and Field Services so integrated solutions ship with traceability, consistency and operational readiness.

You give technical direction on release planning, configuration integrity, audit readiness and lifecycle governance, and you push continuous process improvement across the organization.

The company is a global provider of equipment, systems, digital solutions and value-added services for the freight and transit rail sectors, with roughly 30,000 employees and more than 150 years of experience.

The team is built on a mix of backgrounds, and the company is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Responsibilities

  • Run release and configuration management for integrated solutions that span several products and systems, and keep improving those processes.
  • Set up configuration identification and baseline definitions for software, requirements, specifications, interfaces, architecture artifacts, test assets, deployment packages and supporting documents.
  • Keep requirements, constituent-system versions, interface revisions, change records, verification evidence and deployed configurations linked to one another.
  • Lead solution-level change control and release readiness, checking technical impacts, dependencies, risks and deployment considerations.
  • Build integrated release plans that line up schedules, dependencies, version compatibility and deployment readiness across the product teams.
  • Control the release and distribution of specifications, requirements, interface definitions, architecture documents, verification artifacts and release records.
  • Work with engineering, quality, cybersecurity and testing teams to confirm release candidates meet technical, quality and compliance requirements.
  • Publish and maintain release manifests, solution Bills of Materials (BOMs), compatibility matrices, configuration records and deployment documents that are the authoritative versions.
  • Carry out configuration status accounting, audit preparation and configuration checks so released solutions match approved baselines.
  • Support deployment readiness, release authorization, rollback planning, post-release validation and bringing field changes back into controlled baselines.
  • Investigate release, deployment and configuration problems, lead root-cause analysis and drive corrective actions that improve release quality and configuration integrity.
  • Coach project teams on configuration management, release management, traceability and lifecycle practices, and promote automation and standard processes.
  • You may be asked to take on duties outside your core function or trade; training will be given where needed.
  • Relocation assistance may be offered if eligibility requirements are met.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics or a closely related technical field.
  • Typically 8+ years in release management, configuration management, systems engineering, DevOps, product lifecycle management or a related technical area.
  • Proven experience managing software and documentation baselines across an engineering lifecycle.
  • Experience coordinating complex releases of multiple products across cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Working knowledge of configuration management standards such as SAE EIA-649, ISO 10007, IEEE 828 or equivalent.
  • Experience with requirements and lifecycle tools such as IBM Engineering Lifecycle Management (DOORS Next), Polarion, Jama Connect or similar.
  • Experience with source control, build and release tools such as Git, Azure DevOps, GitHub Enterprise, GitLab, Jenkins, Artifactory, Nexus or equivalent.
  • Experience with PLM, document control and service management platforms such as Teamcenter, Windchill, SharePoint or ServiceNow.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, facilitation and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders in a matrixed setting.
  • Proven ability to improve processes, set best practices and lead initiatives with limited guidance.
  • Preferred: experience in transportation, industrial automation, safety-critical systems or other regulated industries.
  • Preferred: an advanced degree or certifications such as PMP, INCOSE CSEP, CMII, ASQ CQE, ITIL or SAFe.
